World Series recap, Tuesday games

Texas 15 - Florida 14

With the original field of twelve teams down to six as action began on the third day of the 2007 Dixie Pre-Majors World Series, Texas and Tennessee got things started with a 2:00 PM elimination game. From the outset both teams came out swinging the bats and when the final out was made it was Texas that survived to play another day posting a 15-14 win.

Timothy Boaze who was the fourth of four pitchers to toe the hill for Texas in the game, was credited with the win. In two innings of work he allowed two runs on two hits and two hit batsmen while striking out one. Preceding him to the mound were Steven McBride, who started, logging one inning; Ryan Heimer for 2 1/3 innings; and Xavian Sanders for 1 2/3 innings. Between them they combined to allow Tennessee 12 runs on seven hits, 10 walks and one hit batsman while striking out two.

Leading the Texas offense in the game was; Andrew Ector, Steven McBride and Trevor Moon with two hits each. Joining them with one hit apiece were Timothy Boaze, Trace DeBerry and Javarri Kelly.

For Tennessee it was Jeff Wargo that was charged with the loss. In three innings of work he allowed four runs on three hits, four walks and three hit batsmen while striking out one. He followed Erik Schoenrock and Haydern Allen who between them gave up 11 runs on six hits, 10 walks and two hit batsmen while striking out four.

As for the Tennessee offense, Hunter Britcliffe, Lane Ferrell and Steven Sanderlin all had two hits each while Cameron Finch, Erik Schoenrock and Jeff Wargo had one.

Mississippi 13 - Louisiana 0

In the second elimination game on day three it was all Mississippi in a 13-0 rout of the team from Moss Bluff, Louisiana. After scoring two runs in their first at bat,

Mississippi scored six in the third, four more in the fourth and one more in the fifth to shorten the game to five innings.

Andrew Pierce picked up the win for the boys from Laurel County, giving up two hits and two walks while striking out seven.

At the plate, the Mississippi offense pounded out 11 hits on the way to the win, led by Catfish Gainey with three and Tyler Fall and Colby Reeves with two each. Contributing one hit apiece to he hit parade were; Brett Bailey, Brett Moss, Andrew Pierce and Weston Stringer.

Tyler Theriot who stated on the bill for Louisiana was charged with the loss. In 2 1/3 innings he allowed eight runs on six hits, two walks and one hit batter while striking out three. Andrew LaFosse and Grant Cox came on alter him and gave up five runs on five hits, five walks and two strike outs.

On offense only Skylar Barrentine and Tyler Theriot had hits for Louisiana in the losing effort.

Florida 11 - Alabama 10

In the final game of day three, Alabama and Florida tied up in the battle of the only remaining undefeated teams. Through five innings Alabama seemed to be in control holding a 8-2 lead as Florida prepared to bat in the sixth. It was at that point that everything changed when Florida put up nine runs in the top of the sixth to go in front 11-8. From there they managed to hold off a seventh inning rally that put Alabama within one run.

For Florida Josh Lucas, Drew Hutchinson and Ryne Knuth all logged time on the mound in the game, but it was Knuth that was credited with the win. In 2 1/3 innings of relief he allowed two runs on two hit batsmen and struck out two.

On offense Florida was led by Josh Lucas and Weston Stringer with two hits each followed by Brandon Barger, Drew Hutchinson, Matt Jones, Brandon Patterson and Daniel Rockhold with one.

Jordan Chism working 11/3 innings in relief of Mitch Holcombe was charged with the loss for Alabama. He allowed two runs on one hit and one hit batsman while striking out three during his stint.

At the plate Corey Kimbrell had two hits to pace the Alabama hitters while Jordan Chism, Mitch Holcombe, Brad Holmes, Will McKay and Stevie Ward had one apiece.

World Series Action, Wednesday, August 1

Mississippi 2- Alabama 0

As day five the World Series rolled around there were but four teams remainhits ing in the chase for the crown. Two of them, Alabama and Mississippi found themselves in an elimination game that opened the day's activities. Almost in a prelude of what was to come a day later, Mississippi scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth and made them hold up for a 2-0 win over Alabama.

Colby Reeves got the start on the mound for Mississippi and pitched five innings to pick up the win. During his five innings he gave up three hits, three walks and hit one batter while striking out eight. Vito Perna closed the game giving up one hit and one walk while striking out two in two innings to pick up a save.

On offense Tyler Fall led Mississippi with two hits followed by Andrew Pierce and Scott Rowland with one apiece.

Erik Lawrence who went the distance for Alabama, was tagged with the loss, allowing two runs on five hits, one walk and one hit batsman while striking out three.

At the plate Will McKay led Alabama with two hits, followed by Jordan Chism and Stevie Ward with one.

Florida 10- Texas 9

In Wednesday's night cap, undefeated Florida jumped in front of Texas 5-1 after two innings and appeared to be on their way to a rout when they increased their lead to 9-2 in the fifth. But proving the old adage "it ain't over until it's over" Texas roared back with seven runs in the seventh to tie the game and force it into extra-innings. After Texas failed to score in the top of the eighth, Florida didn't let opportunity pass them by, scoring the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the frame.

On the mound it was Drew Hutchinson working the final 1 2/3 innings of the game in relief of Cole Springer and Daniel Rockhold, who was credited with the win. During his short stint he gave up one hit and one walk.

At the plate Ryne Knuth, Brandon Patterson, and Daniel Rockhold all had three hits each to lead the 15 hit Florida attack. Coming behind them with two hits each were; Cole Springer and Kyle Wise while Matt Jones and Josh Lucas added one each to the total.

For Texas it was Timothy Boaze who was charged with the loss, giving up one run on two hits in the final 1/3 inning. Pitching for Texas before him were Ryan Heimer and Trace DeBeny who collectively gave up nine runs on 13 hits, three walks, and six hit batsmen while striking out four.

On offense Andrew Ector led Texas in the losing effort with two hits while teammates Timothy Boaze, Chris Dudley, Javarri Kelly, Will Mixon, Trevor Moon, and Xavian Sanders all had one.
