OBITUARIES

Margaret S. Etheridge

Margaret S. Etheridge, 84, of Camden, died Tuesday, August 7, 2007, at Camden Nursing Facility.

Mrs. Etheridge was born Sept. 3, 1922, in Grove Hill. She was a homemaker.

The funeral was held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 9, at O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville with the Rev. Rex Jackson officiating. Burial was in Midway Baptist Church Cemetery in Thomasville.

Mrs. Etheridge is survived by her husband, S. D. Etheridge of Camden; one daughter, Roselyn K. Etheridge of Camden; one sister, Ruby Lee Allen of Grove Hill; and several friends and relatives.

Pallbearers were Lloyd Gaddy, Dan Allen, James Poe and Will Philpot.

O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home of Thomasville directed.

Julia 'Sis' Luker

Julia "Sis" Luker, 79, of Camden, died Sunday, August 12, 2007, at her home.

Mrs. Luker was born April 20, 1928, in Delair, N.J. and was formerly of Voorhees, N.J. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Thomasville and was a former member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Delair, N.J.

The funeral was held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 15, at O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville with the Revs. Mark Raughton and Chris Kynard officiating. Burial was in Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery in Thomasville.

Mrs. Luker is survived by four sons, Clinton (Phyllis) Powell of Pensacola, William Luker Jr. of Nauvoo, Edward Luker of Philadelphia, Pa., and Jeff (Cheryl) Luker of Grove Hill; two daughters, Barbara (Jim) Mullan of Berlin, N.J. and Gladys (Paul) Luker of Camden; two brothers, Allen (Dotsie) Weber of Pennasauken, N.J. and James (Marion) Weber of Denver, N.C.; one sister, Joan Jones of Virginia Beach, Va.; 13 grandchildren; and 10 greatgrandchildren.

Pallbearers were Jimmy Mullan Jr., Billy Luker III, Bradley Luker, Paul Luker, Andy Wilkerson and Joe Powell.

Honorary pallbearers were Southern Care Hospice and Helen Franklin.

Betsy Jo Ott

Betsy Jo Ott, 73, of Thomasville, died Monday, August 6, 2007, at her home.

Mrs. Ott was born Oct. 14, 1933, in Magnolia. She was a former secretary and real estate agent with Pope's Real Estate in Thomasville and was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in Thomasville.

The funeral was held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 8, at O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville with the Rev. James Young, Rev. Fred Wiley and Rev. Charlie Andrews officiating. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery in Magnolia.

Mrs. Ott was preceded in death by her father, Edward Homer Parker; and one sister, Juliet Parker.

Mrs. Ott is survived by her husband, Vester C. Ott of Thomasville; her mother, Emma Alston Parker of Thomasville; one aunt, Ludie Alston Stone of Jackson; and one cousin, Cecelia Adams of St. Stephens.

Pallbearers were Jeremy Ogle, Jonathan Ogle, Joseph Ogle, Josh Alford, Mitch Aitken and Todd Horton.

Honorary pallbearers were Terry Ogle, Jerry Ogle, Tony Ogle, Lyn Ott, Jackie Soper, Rusty Gates, Jeff Gibson, Jonathan Adams and Will Adams.

Ellis Grey Phillips

Ellis Grey Phillips, 83, of Buena Vista, Va., died Tuesday, May 15, 2007.

Mr. Phillips was born April 25, 1924 in Clarke County, a son of the late Grover Phillips and Effie Rush Phillips. He was a native of the Tallahatta Springs community. Mr. Phillips was a World War II veteran of the Army. He served in the 4th Infantry Division. He was in the D-Day invasion of Normandy, receiving five battle stars, Bronze Star medal and a presidential citation in honor of his brave service to his country. Mr. Phillips retired from Burlington Industries after 34 years of service. He was a member of the VFW, the American Legion and the 4th Infantry (Ivy) Division Association.

The funeral was held at 2 p.m., Friday, May 18, at Bolling Grose and Lotts Chapel with the Rev. Sheldon Sorrells officiating. Burial was in Green Hill Cemetery with full military honors.

Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by his parents and by his sisters, Annie Mae Newton, Virgie Newton and Joyce Dickens.

Mr. Phillips is survived by his wife, Wyma D. Phillips; children, Ellis G. Phillips of Buena Vista, James R. and Carolyn Driscoll of Staunton, Va., Barbara Brown and husband, Donald of Lithia, Va., Sharon Tomlinson and husband Jack of Stuarts Draft, Terri Wilmer and husband Ray of Buena Vista and Carolyn Harrison and husband, Timmy of Lexington; one sister, Mattie Lee Pugh of Bashi; brothers, Noah Phillips and wife Ina of Fairfield, Va., Melvin G. Phillips of Alabama, James Phillips and wife Margaret of Buena Vista, Calvin L. Phillips and wife Doris Raphine of Virginia; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
