Hospital CEO leaving for Ga.
He is leaving to take a position at a county-owned hospital in Eastman, Ga. While the move is a step up for Bierschenk, the Eastman hospital has 94 beds to Thomasville's 24, he said the move was primarily motivated by a desire to be closer to his children. "That was the number one factor in my decision," he said. "It will be difficult leaving. My wife and I have been received very well here and the staff a the hospital has been terrific." Bierschenk's tenure has been an eventful one, from the unveiling of the hospital's new name, to the announcement of plans to build a new hospital and the winning of a statewide award for quality. "I'm very proud of what we've accomplished here since April of 2005," Bierschenk said. Although he is leaving the hospital and its corporate owners, Resurgence Healthcare, Bierschenk said he was confident that the new hospital would indeed be built. "We're in the process of getting HUD financing and that's a year-long application process right there," he said. "You're looking at a $35 million investment; that doesn't happen overnight." Bierschenk said building a new hospital for Thomasville is Resugence's main focus, but for the venture to be successful, ultimately, it depended on the people of Thomasville supporting the hospital and its doctors. "Our average daily population at the hospital is about 12 people, and ideally it needs to be about 15 to 18 people to make it work," he said.
Anne Thompson, an executive with Resurgence will step in while the company searches for Bierschenk's replacement. Friday is Bierschenk's last day. "I feel like I've grown a lot here, and we will miss Thomasville."
