DUI stop leads to drug arrest

Local and county lawmen arrested a man in the parking lot of Bertile's Fast Food restaurant in Grove Hill on drug charges Saturday morning.

Deputy Rob Bost pulled Deon Dickinson over for a DUI investigation. Bost reported that when he first spoke with Dickinson, he seemed nervous.

Bost requested the K-9 unit from the Clarke County Sheriff's Department. After Narcotics Investigator Jim Mundie and Capon arrived they made an exterior search of Dickinson's vehicle. Capon gave a positive alert at the driver's side door and Mundie let him search the interior of the vehicle. Capon gave another alert at the console between the front seats.

Deputy Bost and Sergeant Daniel Gibson of Grove Hill Police Department then searched the vehicle and found a plastic bag with cocaine residue, two bags of marijuana, a blunt rolled with marijuana and a razor blade with a white powdery substance on it, consistent with cocaine.

In addition to the drugs and paraphernalia, Dickinson's vehicle, a little over $200 and two cell phones were seized.

Dickinson was charged with possession of marijuana, second degree, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance.

On Friday afternoon officers with the Clarke County Sheriff's Department, the District Attorney's office and Coffeeville Police Department conducted a warrant round-up in the Toddtown community.

Five arrests were made, which included charges ranging from manufacturing of controlled substance to possession of drug paraphernalia.

"With those arrests we cleared 20 warrants. Roundups like this will be conducted more frequently, not only for narcotics, but also for illegal possession of alcohol.

"Sheriff (Bobby) Moore is determined to make Clarke County a safe place for the senior citizens and the children here. Any information received from citizens concerning illegal drug and alcohol activity will be taken seriously and will be investigated by the sheriff's department," Mundie said.
