Arrests made in gun burglary

Three arrests have been made so far related to the burglary of Dunn's Outdoors and the theft of numerous handguns from the Thomasville store.

Anthony Jones, 19, Dexter Law, 19, and Robert Bettis, 17, were all arrested and charged with burglary this week.

Thomasville Police Department investigator Shane Lindsey said 44 guns were stolen from the business, and 30 have been recovered so far. He would not go into detail as to how the youths were caught.

The burglary is still under investigation and more arrests are expected in the coming days, Lindsey said.

Bettis, a minor was certified as an adult offender by the courts this week.

This is not the first run-in with the police and guns for Law. Previous reports show Law was arrested and charged with carrying a pistol without a permit in 2006.

Law was a standout on the Thomasville High School football team in previous years, including a seven-carry 184- yard performance with three touchdowns against Hillcrest- Evergreen in 2005.

While those three young me were being arrested, other arrests have been made Wednesday in relation to gangstyle graffiti in Thomasville. At least two minors were reported arrested in conjunction with the graffiti Tuesday and Wednesday. Their names were not released and no further details were available at press time.

Other felony arrests made by the Thomasville Police Department are listed as follows:

Virian Rich - unlawful possession of a controlled substance, Freddie James Witherspoon - burglary, Michael James Southall - criminal mischief (two counts) and defacing public property, Otto Rowden III - burglary, John Daniel Champion - failure to appear, Anthony Ray Lanier - trafficking cocaine, Charles Randal Tindle - domestic violence, Ruben Landrum - assault.

Misdemeanor arrests include: Virian Rich - disorderly conduct and possession of drug paraphernalia, Antionette Nicola Mallory - disorderly conduct, Derwin Keith Tompkins - DUI, Brenda R. Malone - possession of marijuana, Courtney Raquell Davis - theft of property (four counts), Courtney Lenise Perkins - theft of property (four counts), Shannon Lea Boutwell - bad checks (two counts), Ronald Jandon Champion - driving with a suspended license, Kenneth Barnard Fuller - public intoxication, David Lee Jordan Jr. - failure to appear, Ruben Landrum - failure to pay child support.

For the week ending Aug. 19, the Thomasville Police Department answered 48 complaints, issued 49 traffic tickets and worked 234 special details.
