Panthers to open against John Essex

The Marengo High School Panthers will play host to the John Essex Hornets this Friday, August 31 when the cross county rivals meet at "The Swamp" in the season opener for both squads.

The match-up between the Scottie Jones coached Panthers and the Hornets coached by Alphus Shipman promises to be a hard fought contest as usual with both teams playing for bragging rights as well as an all important win to get the season started on a positive note.

Both the Panthers who finished the year at 6 - 4 last season and the Hornets who ended the year at 1 - 8 will bring relatively young teams into the contest with both squads only listing four seniors on their roster.

The starting time for the game is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
