THS volleyball season cranks up Coach LaTonya Woods, who missed the majority of the 2006 volleyball season recovering from a life threatening automobile accident, is filled with emotion when she talks about being back on the court coaching her Lady Tigers. First of all, she is thankful to be physically able to be back coaching again in 2007. "I know the Lord must have something else for me to do on this earth," Coach Woods said. "Not only did he spare me in the accident but he has made it possible for me to return to coaching, something I really love." Upon her return Woods was greeted with one of the youngest teams she has had here at Thomasville but one that in the long run she believes will be very competitive. "With only two seniors this year's team is going to be really young," Woods said. "I really don't think that is going to be that much of a negative though because this group has a tremendous amount of potential and are all very coachable. They all seem to have a positive attitude about learning and becoming the best they can be." Coach Woods will be counting on the team's two seniors, Katie Simon and Nicole Washington for leadership as the team kicks off their season this week. "The two seniors we have coming back this season are both outstanding players and two people I know I can count on to give leadership to the team," Coach Woods said. "We have a very challenging schedule and they will need to set the pace as the younger players develop." Following a tri-match that was scheduled with Jackson and Monroe County in Monroeville on Tuesday, August 28; the Lady Tigers will be traveling to Jackson for another tri-match involving Leroy and Jackson on Friday, August 31.
The Lady Tigers' first home date is on Tuesday September 4 when Demopolis comes to town. They will follow that up with another home match against Clarke County High School on Thursday, September 6.
