OBITUARIES

Roy Carroll Etheridge

Roy Carroll Etheridge, 50, of Sweet Water, died Tuesday, August 28, 2007, at his home.

Mr. Etheridge was born April 6, 1957, in Grove Hill. He worked in the maintenance department for the Marengo County Board of Education. He was known for his woodworking ability.

Graveside service was held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 30, at Shiloh Cemetery with the Rev. Arthur Hopson and the Rev. Charles Allen Hicks officiating.

Mr. Etheridge is survived by two sons, Roy (Suson) Etheridge Jr. of Pine Hill and Steven Etheridge of Sweet Water; his parents, James Etheridge of Thomasville and Carolyn Etheridge of Sweet Water; one brother, Jimmy Etheridge of Sweet Water; one grandchild, Ryan Etheridge of Pine Hill; and the mother of his children, Adolcia Etheridge of Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Eddie L. Lynch Sr.

Eddie L. Lynch Sr., 81, died August 26, 2007, in Sacramento, Calif.

Mr. Lynch was born Sept. 23, 1926, to Curvin Lynch and Lonnie (Williams) Lynch, in Sunny South. He relocated to Mobile as a child and graduated from Dunbar High School. Mr. Lynch was a disabled World War II Army veteran who served in Europe from June 1945 to July 1946. He was a dedicated NAACP civil rights worker in Mobile and Sacramento with voter registration and other campaigns, while facilitating development of the North Highlands, Calif., community council. He retired after 40 years at Brookley Field in Mobile and McClellan AFB, N. Highlands, Calif.

The funeral will be held Saturday, Sept. 8, at Macedonia Baptist Church, 700 Benton Ave., in Sacramento, Calif. 95838. (Church phone - 916- 929-8755. Fax 916-649-3070).

Lillie Mae Harrison Noble

Lillie Mae Harrison Noble, 99, of Opine died Monday, August 20, 2007, at Southwest Alabama Medical Center.

Mrs. Noble was born May 21, 1908 in Clarke County. She was a member of Bashan Baptist Church.

The funeral was held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 23, at Bashan Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Simpkins officiating. Rex Rush led the congregation in the singing of Ms. Lillie's favorite hymn, "How Beautiful Heaven Must Be" played by Mrs. Pete (June) Morrison. Also giving part of the eulogy and bringing special music was her granddaughter, Teresa Noble. Additional comments were made by Nancy Harrison and JoAnn Ramsey, two of her granddaughters. Burial was in Bashan Baptist Church Cemetery in Thomasville.

Mrs. Noble was preceded in death by her husband, Hilary H. Noble; one son, William "Went" Noble; and one grandson, Allen E. Noble who lost his life in Vietnam.

Mrs. Noble is survived by three sons, Hilary M. Noble of Thomasville, Moody R. Noble of Thomasville and Nathion U. Noble of Farmville, Va.; one daughter, Betty C. Noble of Elizabethtown, Ky.; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and four great-greatgrandchildren.

Pallbearers were Warren Noble, Michael Noble, Ricky Skelton, Mark Ramsey, Brandon Baker and Harold Agee.

Honorary Pallbearers were Rex Rush, Pete Morrison, Ralph Agee, Kim Grocholl, Steve Harvell and Randy Harrison.

William Melvin Parten

William Melvin Parten, 59, of Thomasville, died Thursday, August 30, 2007, at his home.

Mr. Parten was born Jan. 13, 1948, in Butler. He was a machine operator with Georgia Pacific Paper Mill. Mr. Parten was a member of Nanafalia Baptist Church.

Graveside service was held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 1, at Hickory Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Hal Taylor officiating.

Mr. Parten is survived by his wife, Gloria Parten of Thomasville; one son, Richard Todd Parten of Dothan; two daughters, Rebecca Susan Williams of Dothan, Jessica Parten of Dothan; one stepdaughter, Miranda Hackworth of Mobile; his parents, Lloyd E. Parten of Sweet Water and Barbara C. Parten of Sweet Water; one brother, Kenneth Parten of Butler; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Russell Moore Jr., Larry Rotton, Jimmy McDonald, Junior Frankhum, Bay Robinson and Russell Moore Sr.

Shirley Ann Stephens

Shirley Ann Stephens, 66, of Grove Hill, died Saturday, September 1, 2007, at her home.

Mrs. Stephens was born Nov. 16, 1940 in Peacock. She was a member of Grove Hill Methodist Protestant Church.

The funeral was held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 2, at O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville with the Rev. James "Skippy" Gates, the Rev. Benny Crawford and the Rev. Lee Stephens officiating. Burial was in Henley Cemetery in Fulton.

Mrs. Stephens is survived by her husband, Curtis Earl Stephens of Grove Hill; two sons, Curtis Mitchell "Mickey" (Judy) Stephens of Grove Hill and Earnest McWaymon "Mack" (Cindy) Stephens of Grove Hill; one daughter, Bonnie Sue "Susie" (Eddie) Knight of Grove Hill; her mother, Callie Louise Hudson of Grove Hill; four brothers, Elven McWaymon Hudson of Arcadia, Fla., Bonnie Gerald Hudson of Denham Springs, La., Freddie Joe Hudson of Knoblesville, Ind., and Mark Randall "Randy" Hudson of Repton; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Elven Hudson, Gerald Hudson, Fred Hudson, Randy Hudson, Clay Hudson and Billy Lowe.

Honorary Pallbearers were Bill Stephens, Perry Callaway, Scott Newton, Dale Stephens, Jimmy Marshall, Charles Wells and Byron Hudson.

Mabelene Timmons Tunstall

Mabelene Timmons Tunstall, 50, of Lower Peachtree, died Sunday, September 2, 2007, in Montgomery.

Mrs. Tunstall was born Oct. 16, 1956 in Monroe County. She was a member of Miles Chapel C.M.E.

Visitation will be held Friday, Sept. 7, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., at Reese Funeral Home Chapel in Thomasville. The funeral will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 8, at Miles Chapel C.M.E. with the Rev. Tommie L. Jackson officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Sinai A.M.E. Cemetery.

Mrs. Tunstall was preceded in death by her father, James Timmons Sr.; and one sister, Mary Louise Timmons.

Mrs. Tunstall is survived by her husband, Walter L. Tunstall; two daughters, Tammie Timmons of Montgomery and Patricia Tunstall of Lower Peachtree; her mother, Emma Davis-Timmons of Lower Peachtree; three sisters, Alice Wright of Montgomery, Kendra Dunn of Montgomery and Mary Cheeseboro of Lower Peachtree; five brothers, James Timmons Jr., Robert Timmons and Bryan Timmons, all of Lower Peachtree, David Timmons of Phenix City and Michael Timmons of Montgomery; and one grandchild, Jada Timmons of Montgomery.
