From the Editor's Desk
But, I was surprised by how many folks in these parts seemed to be pretty pleased with that collosal upset in Ann Arbor, Mich. I could see that reaction if Notre Dame had taken that tumble, but Michigan? I just didn't think enough people really cared about the Wolverines in these parts. Must be a Big 10 thing. So, just how bad is it? Well, let me put it this way, one of my best friends bleeds maize and blue, but he's considering switching over to being a fulltime Wolverine fan. In the interest of full disclosure, he does hold a degree from that fine institution, so it wouldn't be a wholesale jumping of ship, but still. And for all the hype, Nick Saban is still not coaching a team in the top 25 - yet. But goes without saying that the Iron Bowl just got a lot more interesting. Anybody remember the praise heaped on Auburn offensive coordinator Al Borges in 2004? What happened to that guy? I'm beginning to suspect it's actually Pat Dye calling the offensive plays now. Thanks Thanks to everyone who came out to the gallery and studio opening. It was a great time and I appreciated the support. Of course, I'm still here at the paper doing my number one job, and that's not changing. I just took what I normally do in my off hours and put it someplace that makes it a little easier for folks to see what I'm up to photographically. It's only open by appointment, so give me a call and we'll set up a time if you want to drop by. Doomsday I just read a fascinating piece that reports the Soviet Union may well have some sort of doomsday device a la Dr. Strangelove. How crazy is that? A lot of people would like to think that when the cold war ended, all the nukes in the world disappeared, but nothing could be further from the truth. The U.S. and Russia still have enough to blow up the world real good. And the rockets are still ready to fly. So this report is a little disturbing because this so-called doomsday device was never turned off. It's still operational and whatever it's composed of is still ready to do its deadly job. Let's hope there are no Gen. Jack D. Rippers around. Big surprise
So a report on progress in Iraq says the Iraqi government hasn't met most of its goals set forth by the U.S. Knock me over with a feather. I tell you, I'm at a total loss as to what to do over there. But there isn't a single idea I've heard yet that sounds like the right thing to do.
