Health fair to town

The "Help Is Here Express" as seen on the Montel Williams Show is coming to Thomasville next Thursday as one of the 12 stops planned for Alabama during September. The bus, equipped with computer terminals and phones so people can find out (for free) if they may be eligible for assistance through the Partnership for Prescription Assistance is scheduled to arrive at 1 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 13, at The Thomasville Baptist Church Fellowship Center, 210 Wilson Street.

Helping patients is the main goal of the program. By educating professionals and public officials, they may find the information useful for their clients.

The "Express" is one part of the four-hour community health fair and educational seminars to be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event, sponsored by the Southwest Alabama Medical Center in Thomasville, will include the following free screenings: blood pressure, blood glucose, height/weight, fall risk assessments, vision / hearing (provided by the Lions Club Sight Mobile), and United blood services blood drive.

Educational seminars presented will include:

10 a.m. - 11 a.m., Clayton Davis - Medicare.

11 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. - Dr. Huey Kidd - hypertension and risks associated with heart disease.

1:30 p.m. - 2 p.m. - Dr. T.B. Darji - "Ask MD."

Various hospice and home health agencies will also be represented.

The Southwest Alabama Chamber of Commerce and the hospital auxiliary will provide refreshments.
