AREA CALENDAR Health fair The Southwest Alabama Medical Center (SWAMC) will hold its annual health fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 13, at the Thomasville Baptist Church. Vision and hearing screenings will be provided by the Lions Club and blood drive by United Blood Services. Health seminars and door prizes and more will be provided. Art exhibit The Arts Councils of Thomasville and Grove Hill Arts Council are sponsoring an art exhibit in Thomasville at the LP office on Wilson Avenue. The opening reception will be Thursday, Sept. 13, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and features local artists presenting original works for show and sale. The exhibit will also be open on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 14 and 15, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Everyone is invited to join in supporting and enjoying the works of local artists. Retired educators district meeting The Alabama Education Retirees Association's 2007 annual district meeting for District 6, which includes Clarke County, will be held Monday, Sept. 17, at Alabama Southern Community College's main conference room in Thomasville. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. The program will begin at 9:30 a.m. and end no later than 12:30 p.m. All Clarke County Education retirees and other District 6 members are urged to attend. Information on insurance will be presented. Red Cross blood drive The American Red Cross will hold the Thomasville Community Harold Spinks Memorial Blood Drive from 12:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 20, at 120 Old Highway 5 North in Thomasville. Donors will receive a free T-shirt and will be entered to win two roundtrip Delta Air Lines International tickets. Please bring photo ID. Retired educators meeting The Clarke County Retirees Education Association will hold its first meeting of the 2007-2008 year, at 11:45 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 20, at the Jackson Steakhouse in Jackson. All education retirees, teachers, support personnel, active, inactive and associate members are cordially invited to attend and join the association. Associate members are any person interested in the purpose of the association. Membership dues are $10 per year. Wilma G. Day is president of the association. Bereavement ceremony Hometown Hospice of Camden, Inc. has scheduled a bereavement ceremony at 5 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 25 at Dunklin and Daniels Chapel on the Camden Bypass to recognize and honor the lives of its patients who have passed away. All family and friends of the loved ones who passed away in 2005 and 2006 are invited. For more information call 682-4400. Story hour at the library The Thomasville Public Library has openings in the story hour programs for threeyear olds and in the K-fourth grade class. Three-year olds' (Reading Bees) story hour is held each Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The K-fourth graders (Dragonflies) meet from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., each Tuesday. These programs require registration, so anyone interested is asked to come by the library. AL-ANON Meets AL-ANON meets every Thursday night at 6:30 at Pineview Baptist Church (enter door at Moore Street entrance behind church). For more information call 636-9985. Homework assignments Thomasville Middle School and Thomasville High School homework assignments are posted by all teachers each week. The 24th annual Peterman Station Arts and Crafts Festival will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 17, in downtown Peterman, six miles north of Monroeville. Booths are still available at $45 without electricity and $50 with electricity.
