OBITUARIES

Erline L. Carter

Erline L. Carter, 74, of Campbell, died Monday, September 3, 2007, at Mobile Infirmary.

Mrs. Carter was born Nov. 21, 1932, in Campbell. She was a retired administrative officer with First United Security Bank. She was a member of Witch Creek Baptist Church in Campbell.

The funeral was held at Witch Creek Baptist Church at 3 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 5, with the Rev. Curtis Thomas, the Rev. John Merek and the Rev. Mike Maloy officiating. Burial was in Witch Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Carter is survived by her husband, William Gaines Carter of Campbell; her mother Myrtie Toland Loper of Campbell; one sister, Mae Parden of Grove Hill; one brother H.J. Loper of Thomasville; two nieces, Kim McLendon and Karen Flemming; and five nephews, Larry Parden, Gary Parden, Mark Mercy, Jonathan Loper and Anthony Loper.

Active Pallbearers were John Loper, Anthony Loper, Mark Mercy, Stewart Hoven, Harold Hoven, Danny Hoven, John L. Carter and Will Betancourt.

Honorary pallbearers were Ken McLendon, Frank Daniels, Sam Shields, S.P. Carter, Larry Parden, Gary Parden, Sidney Hoven, employees of First United Security Bank and member of the Witch Creek Hunting Club.

O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home of Thomasville directed.

James Arthur Sims

James Arthur Sims, 66, of Camden, died Sunday September 2, 2007, at Mobile Infirmary.

Mr. Sims was born July 21, 1941 in Sunny South and was employed as a local paper mill maintenance supervisor.

The funeral was held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 5, at O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville with the Rev. Don Newton officiating. Burial was in Sunny South Baptist Church Cemetery in Sunny South.

Mr. Sims is survived by two sons, Kevin (Lisa) Sims of Thomasville and Randall Sims of Camden; one sister, Elsie Finley of Sunny South; one brother, Bobby Sims of Pine Hill; and two grandsons, Tristan Sims and Brodie Sims, both of Thomasville.

Pallbearers were Brad Dozier, Don Lauderdale, Shane Sims, Greg Ingram, Jason Hawk, Allen Bishop, Ken Clayton and Kevin Hill.

Ruth S. Slaughter

Ruth S. Slaughter, 96, of Mobile, died Wednesday, August 29, 2007, at Providence Hospital.

Mrs. Slaughter was born Sept. 21, 1910 in Dothan. She was a former school teacher and was a member of the Pine Hill United Methodist Church where she was a member of the UMW. Mrs. Slaughter was a member of the National Education Association, the Alabama Education Association and the Wilcox County Education Association.

Graveside service was held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 8, at Lower Peachtree Cemetery with the Rev. Jimmy R. O'Bryant officiating.

Mrs. Slaughter was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob Lewis Slaughter; one sister Virginia Spivey Andrews; and one brother, William M. Spivey.

Mrs. Slaughter is survived by one niece, Ginny Ruth Rabb of Mobile; three great-nieces, Gena Lowry, Sherrill Mendenhall and Tamatha Cambronero; two greatnephews, Jeff Rabb and Kyle Rabb; and three great-greatnieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pine Hill United Methodist Church.

Lucy Kate Stutts

Lucy Kate Stutts, 87, of Thomasville, died Sunday, September 2, 2007, at Country Oaks Assisted Living Facility in Thomasville.

Mrs. Stutts was born Nov. 22, 1919, in Clarke County. She was a bookkeeper and was a member of Round Hill Baptist Church in Thomasville.

The funeral was held at 1 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 6, at Round Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. H. Grady Goodman officiating. Burial was in Round Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Stutts is survived by two daughters, Julia Austin of Tuscaloosa and Bettye Townsend of Roswell, Ga.; one sister, Minnie Bell Deaton of Thomasville; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers were Jim Wilson, Fred Wilson, Bruce Wilson, Larry Austin, Phillip Austin and Tom Townsend.

Honorary pallbearers were Joe and Linda Holden, Wanda and David Campbell and employees of Country Oaks.
