Sealy excited about step up
At 27 years of age, and head of Thomasville Elementary School, Sealy is by far the youngest of Thomasville's principals. But, he said, that shouldn't be held against him. "Some people are surprised at my age, but I tell them there's no age limit on loving kids and wanting to see them succeed." Sealy, who is from around these parts, is a graduate of Sweet Water High School in 1998. He went on to Faulkner State Junior College for two years and played on the baseball team. From there, he went to the University of West Alabama where he studied elementary education. He received his bachelor's degree and his master's degree from UWA. After finishing his schooling, he taught 3rd grade at Grove Hill Elementary before coming back to Sweet Water where he taught 4th, 5th and 6th graders and served as the head softball coach. "Coming here has been a wonderful experience," Sealy said. "The people have been great. Growing up in the area, I know a lot of people in Thomasville so that's helped. " Sealy said his focus will be on maintaining the high achievement TES is known for in the area. "When I got here, this school had a great reputation and I intend to keep it up," he said. "The focus is on the kids here, and that's where it should be, it's why we're here." Sealy said he's received a lot of support from the teachers and administrators in the system, likening the school system in Thomasville to "a welloiled machine." When asked, Sealy said he felt having assistant principal Jimmie Rose Bryant splitting time between the elementary and high school was working well, but that was largely due to Mrs. Bryant's skill and experience. "I'd like to have her all day, but Mr. Ferguson needs her too, she knows what she's doing," he said.
Sealy said he feels blessed to be a part of the school system here and to have the opportunity that's been given to him.
