Tiger JV wins in Grove Hill tilt
By Charlie Anderson Contributing Writer

The Thomasville High School Junior Varsity squad traveled to Grove Hill this past Monday, September 10, and defeated the Clarke County High School Junior Varsity 35 - 16. The game, which was the season opener for the Thomasville JV was the back half of a Middle School - Junior Varsity double header played at H. G. Prim Stadium.

In the game, the Thomasville offense converted on drives of 65 yards, 80 yards and 51 yards in the first half while the Tiger defense was shutting down the Bulldog offense. Charles Taylor began the Tiger scoring with a 20 yard sprint to the end zone with 5:48 to play in the first quarter. Harrison Lewis tacked on the extra-point and Thomasville led 7 - 0.

Jarrett Taylor, Charles' older brother, put the Tigers up by two touchdowns at the 5:29 mark of the second quarter when he darted in from 11 yards out. Lewis was on the mark again and Thomasville led 14 - 0.

The Tigers were not satisfied and added one more touchdown before intermission. Tevin Pope got the honors this time, dashing in from 15 yards out with 1:56 remaining on the second quarter clock. Lewis split the uprights again and the Tigers took a 21 - 0 lead into the halftime break.

The third quarter belonged to the Clarke County JV as their defense made the plays to keep the Thomasville offense in check while the Bulldog offense was getting their first points of the night. The Bulldog score came with 1:45 to play in the third stanza on a five yard run. The two point conversion was good and suddenly the Thomasville lead had been cut to 21 - 8.

At that point the Thomasville offense went back to work and picked up their fourth touchdown of the night when Charles Taylor recorded his second of the night on a 35 yard scamper. Lewis nailed another one and the Thomasville lead stood at 28 - 8.

The Bulldogs would not fold their tent however and punched another one across with 1:11 remaining in the game on a 10 yard run. Once again the two point conversion was good and the Bulldogs had cut the lead to 28 - 16.

The Tigers would have the last hurrah though when Tevin Pope rambled 70 yards to pick up his second touchdown of the night. Lewis made it a perfect five for five on extra-points setting the final at 35 - 16.

The Thomasville JV will not be back in action again until Monday, October 1, when they play host to the same Clarke County Bulldog JV in the back half of another Middle School - Junior Varsity double header.
