Gaston's Grill to open next week, employ 46
By Arthur McLean Editor

David and Charlie Gaston are expecting to carry on the tradition of The Alabama Grill in bigger and newer digs.

Charlie Gaston purchased the former Ryan's property about a month ago and the brothers have been working ever since to get it ready for business.

"We're working with our grocery suppliers and support businesses now to get things finalized," David Gaston said.

Charlie Gaston owned The Alabama Grill building before selling it to Walgreen's earlier this year. When it closed, it brought an end to a 60-year history of serving up homestyle food to travelers and visitors from around the region.

Now, the Gastons are bringing back their family recipes and lifelong experience of working in the hospitality industry to a new location.

Gatson's Grill as it will be called, will have 46 employees and seat nearly 400 people. It is expected to open by the middle of next week.

The restaurant will have a buffet and serve plate lunches. It will be open seven days a week and open at 5 a.m. serving breakfast and stay open until 9 p.m.

"It will be very similar to the old grill except we won't be as heavy into the barbecue," David Gaston said.

"We grew up in the restaurant business," David Gaston said. "My parents bought the Wilcox Hotel in 1962. We grew up cooking and cleaning tables. We learned it the old-fashioned way."
