Wilcox County Schools were a part of the 316 public schools across Alabama that received rewards for improved academic performance. Gov. Bob Riley joined members of the state school board on Thursday, Sept. 13, to announce the schools will share almost $5 million. The money can be used for enhancing instructional programs and purchasing needed materials.

Riley said schools were selected based on assessment data from 2006-2007 that included specific challenges as outlined in the No Child Left Behind Law.

State School Superintendent Joe Morton said the reward recognizes schools for improving student performance in the classroom.
