Litter Awareness Week

Clarke County Litter Awareness Week continues through Sept. 29. Law officers will be stressing enforcement and ticketing offenders during this time. Keep an eye on litter. Don't add to it. Don't toss it. Don't let it fly off your truck. Pick it up. Thank those you see picking it up.

BWWMH jewelry sale

The $5 Jewelry Sale returns to Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital's classroom October 4 and 5 just in time to for Christmas shopping. Sponsored by the BWWMH Auxiliary, the event has become one of their most popular fundraisers as shoppers take advantage of the incredible $5 price for costume jewelry of all types. Everything from rings to necklaces will be on sale during the event when shopping hours will be from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. SVFD fund-raiser

The Surginer Volunteer Fire Department will have a day of fun, food and entertainment beginning at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 13. Chicken tender plates with baked beans, potato salad, bread, cake and tea will be available for $7. Soft drinks, tea, bottled water and coffee will also be available. Entertainment including singing by Glory Road Quartet, Matt Akridge, The Lewis Trio, Mallory Broadus, Gene Etheredge and Friends, and other can be enjoyed during the day. "Stuff a Friend" will be back by high demand for the children. There will also be cakes to be auctioned off, or you can buy a cake of your choice.

Homecoming festival

The Sullivan Family will host a big fall homecoming festival and band reunion Oct. 18- 20 at the Sullivan Family Homeplace Park near St. Stephens, 9 miles south of Jackson, 1 mile off Highway 43. The event will feature groups from the Bluegrass Gospel Association and special guests. For more information call 251-246-4553.

Story hour at the library

The Thomasville Public Library has openings in the story hour programs for threeyear olds and in the K-fourth grade class. Three-year olds' (Reading Bees) story hour is held each Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The K-fourth graders (Dragonflies) meet from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., each Tuesday. These programs require registration, so anyone interested is asked to come by the library.

AL-ANON Meets

AL-ANON meets every Thursday night at 6:30 at Pineview Baptist Church (enter door at Moore Street entrance behind church). For more information call 636-9985.

Homework assignments

Thomasville Middle School and Thomasville High School homework assignments are posted by all teachers each week. They are published by 4 p.m. every Monday for that week.

24th Peterman Station

The 24th annual Peterman Station Arts and Crafts Festival will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 17, in downtown Peterman, six miles north of Monroeville. Booths are still available at $45 without electricity and $50 with electricity. Black Belt Musical Tour

ArtsRevive and the Selma LINKS have partnered with the Alabama State Council on the Arts and the National Endow - ment for the Arts to present the Dallas County Black Belt Mu - si cal Tour, on Thursday Sept. 27, at 7 p.m. This concert will be held at the Pickard Audi - torium, located at the School of Discovery, 400 Washington Avenue. This communitybased concert will depict the era of gospel music from its origin to the present. This high impact, soul stirring, energetic performance will feature the talented students of Selma High's choral department and special guests, Montgomery's own Cinque Cullar and the Tribe of Judah. Come witness performing arts at its best. Tickets are available at the Centre for Commerce, Selma Public Library, and Truax & Co. Tickets in advance are $5 for adults and $3 for students and at the door are $7 for adults and $3 for students.
