Principals report to school board

"Gotcha!" has become the byword at Thomasville High School and Thomasville Middle School. "When you catch a kid engaging in a random act of kindness or going the extra mile or picking up paper off the floor," they receive a Gotcha award, THS Principal Kyle Ferguson told the city Board of Education Sept. 20. "We really stress school pride….They really help keep the school clean."

A Gotcha award at THS will get a student to break five minutes early. "That's a big deal for them," he said. "You don't have to stand in line for a drink machine or a snack machine. It's a privilege."

At THS, "we've got three beliefs: be responsible, be respectful, be resourceful. We try to state things in positive terms and not say 'no' this (or) 'no' that. Instead of rules, we have expectations."
