Guy's Taxidermy, 55 years and still going
"I guess it was 55 years ago when I borrowed $27 from my sister to buy 12 books on taxidermy," Calvin Guy said from his workshop, talking about what he has been doing the last half-century. Located just off the Gin Road in Coffeeville, Guy's Taxidermy Shop sits under the shades of oak trees and once you step in you see why he has been doing this for so many years. "I didn't know much about stuffing animals," he added. "But I had seen them in a lot of places." This year alone Guy has been given the task of mounting 85 deer, six foxes, 16 bass, 11 hogs and other various animals. "I am 72-years-old and I want to slow down some and do some of the things I want to do like fish," Guy said. "I was able to do all of this while I worked at Boise for so many years and I don't know how I found the time to do it. "But it has kept me busy," he laughed.
