Butler Fest Butler Fest is coming to Butler on Oct. 12 and 13 with street dances, carnival, food booths, arts and crafts booths, Memphis in May cooking teams as well as backyard teams and youth can participate in cooking events. SVFD fund-raiser The Surginer Volunteer Fire Department will have a day of fun, food and entertainment beginning at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 13. Chicken tender plates with baked beans, potato salad, bread, cake and tea will be available for $7. Soft drinks, tea, bottled water and coffee will also be available. Entertainment including singing by Glory Road Quartet, Matt Akridge, The Lewis Trio, Mallory Broadus, Gene Etheredge and Friends, and other can be enjoyed during the day. "Stuff a Friend" will be back by high demand for the children. There will also be cakes to be auctioned off, or you can buy a cake of your choice. Bring a lawn chair and stay all afternoon. Teen reading week The Thomasville Public Library invites teens to celebrate the joy of reading during Teen Read Week, Oct. 14 - 20. "LOL @ your library" is the theme for this year's event and the library will offer fun prize incentives to participate. To qualify participants must be a teen, come by the public library during Teen Read Week and check out and read a book Teens may register for prizes during their library visit. Story hour at the library The Thomasville Public Library has openings in the story hour programs for threeyear olds and in the K-fourth grade class. Three-year olds' Reading Bees) story hour is held each Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The K-fourth graders (Dragonflies) meet from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., each Tuesday. These programs require registration, so anyone interested is asked to come by the library. AL-ANON Meets AL-ANON meets every Thursday night at 6:30 at Pineview Baptist Church (enter door at Moore Street entrance behind church). For more information call 636-9985. Homework assignments Thomasville Middle School and Thomasville High School homework assignments are posted by all teachers each week. They are published by 4 p.m. every Monday for that week. Reunions Dement family A family reunion for the descendants of Charlie and Alice Dement is set for Saturday, Oct. 13 at the pavilion of Gates Drive Park in Thomasville. The event begins at 10 a.m. with a pot-luck lunch at noon and an afternoon of fellowship and reminiscing. All relatives and friends are invited to attend. Please bring lawn chairs and photos to share. Mott - Brown family All family members and friends are invited to the family reunion of the Mott-Brown families beginning at 10:30 a.m., Oct. 13. Festivities will be at the Oak Grove Baptist Church on Highway 154 between Coffeeville and Thomasville. Those attending are requested to bring a covered dish and lawn chairs. CHS Old Timers' reunion All former students, teachers, families and friends of Coffeeville High School are invited to attend an "Ole Timers" reunion Saturday, Oct. 20, at the school. Registration begins at 9 a.m. A covered dish luncheon is planned and everyone is encouraged to attend and bring your favorite dish. The graduating class of 1957 will be honored at this time. Attending will be former students from a wide range of classes and this is a great opportunity to see old friends.
