Pine Hill approves budget The town of Pine Hill adopted its budget for the 2008 fiscal year last week. The budget of nearly $1.5 million anticipates spending will be less than revenues by less about $10,000. The budget includes a five percent pay raise for city employees. The budget is similar to last years $1.46 million budget, said Mayor Harry Mason. In addition to adopting the budget, the council also approved a revised employee handbook. The document had not been updated since 1981. The nuisance dog ordinance was tabled until the council's next regular meeting in November. Virginia Abrams requested that the city ask for street lights to be put on existing power poles in front of Carolyn's Restaurant and Hick's Service Station, stating that the area was dark near those businesses. The motion was approved.
The town has received a grant from the Delta Regional Authority to repair a section of sewer lines in town. The grant comes in the amount of $262,000. The city will have to come up with matching funds of $92,000. The work will replace 3,600 feet of sewer line, and man holes along one of the first sewer lines to be put in town. Rainwater infiltrates the line, which is a concern for city officials. The state has already told the town it needed to replace the sewer line.
