Jacquelyn Pace has been named the 2007 teacher of the year by Sky Haven Brain-Based Theme School, an urban neighborhood elementary school located near downtown Atlanta.

Mrs. Pace is the daughter of Bettye S. Cox of Thomasville and the late Johnny B. Cox. She is the granddaughter of Susie D. Sellers of Coffeeville and the late Elmira Johnson of Jackson.

She was born and raised in St. Paul, Minn. She graduated high school in 1995 and earned a bachelor's degree from Tuskegee University in elementary education in 2000. She is certified in grades K-8.

Mrs. Pace stated she comes from a family of educators and was influenced to become a teacher from a great teacher, her mother.

She plans to return to school this summer to pursue her master's degree in hopes of one day becoming a principal.
