Fall, number one in my book!
For whatever reason, the fall also seems to bring out the best in the sun and moon. The sunrises and sunsets of this period paint the sky in a beautiful array of colors that would make the greatest artist in the world envious while the harvest moon fills the night with a light that dances across the landscape telling stories of mystery, intrigue, and wonderment to any who have the patience and imagination to listen. The fall is also a special time for many avid sports fans like myself because the football season is fully underway at every level from the smallest tiny mites to the NFLand the Major League baseball season is reaching its pinnacle, producing the eight teams who have emerged from the season's pennant races to begin the divisional and league playoffs that will ultimately produce the two teams that will compete in the Major League Baseball World Series, the greatest sports spectacle of all. High school and college football are of particular interest to me and others like me during the fall attracting thousands and in some cases hundreds of thousands to stadiums all around the country to cheer their favorite teams on to victory. There are other sports enthusiasts who look at fall as the advent for the basketball and hockey seasons that will soon be underway bringing their favorite athletes to the forefront on the basketball courts and ice rinks across the nation. For another large segment of our population, particularly here in our neck of the woods, fall is a special time because it ushers in the hunting season. Within those numbers are some young hunters who will be experiencing the thrill of their first hunt while others in the group will be carrying on a tradition that has been a part of their life for many years. There will also be many who see the enjoyment of hunting as a legacy that each successive generation needs to pass on to the next so that the love they have for nature and the outdoors like that of their fathers' will be something that can bind one generation to the next. No doubt there are even other things special about the fall that I might have overlooked or left off the list but think you get my message. Certainly the spring of the year is a special time for many people as well. For some I am sure it is their hands down favorite with a multitude of reasons to explain why. In my own life spring probably runs a close second to fall for several reasons including the beginning again of baseball season. But in the final analysis when all is said and done my vote still goes to fall. Even if you don't share my view, I hope your fall of 2007 will be as good as I anticipate mine being and that all your favorite teams win their games unless they are playing mine.
Until next time……be safe!
