Thomasville JV loses to Clarke County 14-7 The Thomasville Tiger Junior Varsity football team saw their season record fall to 1 - 1 this past Monday, October 1, when they lost to the Clarke County Junior Varsity team 14 - 7 at D. F. Anderson Field in Thomasville. In the game the Tigers took the lead on their first possession when they drove 70 yards for a touchdown. David Foster culminated the drive that consumed five minutes of the first quarter clock when he blasted his way into the end zone from 12 yards out. Harrison Lewis added the extra-point and the Tigers led 7 - 0 with 2:59 to play in the first period. Neither team was able to sustain anything on offense for the balance of the first half as the Tigers turned the ball over twice, once on a fumble at their 39 yard line and once on an interception at the Clarke County 40 while the Bulldogs fumbled once at mid-field with Charles Taylor falling on the loose pigskin. The 7 - 0 lead held up for the Tigers until early in the fourth quarter when the Bulldogs scored on a two yard plunge that completed a 46 yard drive highlighted by several big pass plays. A pass attempt for the two point conversion was broken up leaving Thomasville on top 7 - 6 with 6:20 to play in the fourth quarter. After the Tigers were unable to move the ball on their next possession a punt gave the Bulldogs the ball at their 38 yard line with the fourth quarter clock ticking down. Taking it from there the Bulldogs managed to drive the ball 62 yards for what would be the winning touchdown, converting three big third down plays along the way. The touchdown actually came on a two yard dive with :51 seconds left to play. The two point conversion was good putting the Bulldogs on top for good at 14 - 7. On a side note the refereeing crew that worked both games Monday saw a lengthy officiating career come to an end as the final whistle blew in the JV game. John Ziegler who was serving as the umpire in both games officially retired after the games Monday ending a 30 year career that has seen him, as he put it, refereeing in more places than he can count.
The Tiger JV will be back in action on Monday, October 8, when they travel to Jackson to play the Jackson Aggie JV in the back half of a middle school - junior varsity double header.
