Clarke County Sheriff's Report

A Monroe County man was arrested by Clarke County deputies Tuesday for impersonating a police officer.

According to Deputy Jim Mundie, Joe Lewis Andrews Jr. went with a friend to a woman's house on Old Ranch Road in Whatley.

He allegedly convinced the woman that he was a Monroe County sheriff's deputy and she should give her 1973 Chevrolet Malibu to the woman who was with him.

"The woman who was with him didn't say he was an officer, but she didn't say he wasn't either. More charges may be filed in this case," Deputy Mundie said.

Andrews has previously been charged with the same crime in Escambia County by Atmore Police Department.

His bond was set at $30,000.
