TMS shuts out Jackson 22-0 The Thomasville Middle School Tigers went on the road to Jackson and shutout the Jackson Middle School Aggies 22 - 0 on Monday, October 8. In posting the victory the young Tigers got some big plays out of their offense and relied on a defense that bent but wouldn't break. Thomasville won the toss and elected to defer to the second half giving the Aggies the chance to go on offense first. Beginning at their 30 yard line the young Aggies had the Thomasville sideline holding their breathe as they broke the first play from scrimmage 67 yards to the Thomasville three yard line. Playing as if nothing special had happened the Tiger defense bowed up and shut the Aggies down on four plays taking over at the 13. From there the Tiger offense moved the ball out past the 30 but fumbled giving the Aggies great field position at the Thomasville 35. The Aggie rejoicing was short lived however as three plays later TMS linebacker Tyler Hayes intercepted an Aggie pass and returned it to the Aggie side of mid-field setting the Tiger offense up with good field position at the 47 with 3:18 remaining in the first quarter. The Tigers didn't let the opportunity pass them by, scoring their first touchdown of the night when John Knight barreled in from 10 yards out with 1:03 to play in the first period. The two point conversion attempt fell short but TMS led 6 - 0. Knight's touchdown was set up by a halfback pass from Tyler Hayes to Tevin Watters that put the Tigers on the 22. Neither team could establish anything on offense for the balance of the first quarter or the entire second quarter as the two defenses settled in. Things picked up again midway the third quarter when Tyler Hayes converted a third and fifteen situation into a big first down when he connected with Tevin Watters again on a 38 yard halfback pass down to the Aggie 34. Hayes finished the drive himself on the next play scampering 34 yards to pay dirt with 3:29 to play in the third period. John Knight added the two point conversion and TMS was out front 14 - 0. It looked for a moment like the Aggies were going to respond to the Tiger score on their ensuing possession when they picked up two quick first downs and completed another pass to the Thomasville 39. Unfortunately for them the ball was stripped from the receiver where upon an alert James Bettis scooped the loose ball up and advanced it to the Thomasville 46 giving his offensive teammates good field position again with 1:09 left in the third stanza. At that point the opportunistic Tiger offense wasted no time striking gold again when Tyler Hayes broke containment and rambled 54 yards for another TMS touchdown. Quarterback Hunter Jackson hooked up Monterrio Woods on the two point conversion increasing the lead to 22 - 0 with :57 left to play in the third. That is the way it would remain as the fourth quarter proved to be all defense.
The TMS Tigers now with a 2 - 1 - 1 record will take a week off before concluding their season on Monday, October 22, when they play host to Demopolis Middle School in the front end of a Middle School - Junior Varsity double header. Game time is set for 5:30 PM.
