Once God has 'adopted' you, you're his forever
Spiritual Reflections
Pat Ozment Jr. IMB Missionary to Ghana
The other night Princess, our African dog, had 10 puppies. She started having them in the yard, just as darkness fell, and finished the job on the back porch at the Wuni house. Erica and Bubba, followed her around picking up puppies as she dropped them.

Bye the way, I owe Princess an apology.

We mistakenly identified the daddy of her puppies as a lowly cur dog named "Red," but one look at these little beauties clearly testifies that their sire is registered with the African Kennel Club.

Anyway we are now accepting applications for adoption. It is vital that you get your paper work filled out ASAP, because these little babies will be available in just 8 weeks and you don't want to be late.

The adoption qualifications are very simple. We require three personal references, proof of a stable employment situation, a copy of your bank statements for the last 12 months, a copy of your last five tax returns, a clean bill of health from your personal medical professional, a certificate of inspection for your kennel and dog run, complete with pictures of the fenced enclosure, and a copy of your baptism certificate.

One thing you need to remember, all adoptions are final, legally binding, and irrevocable, just like yours.

I mean you know you are adopted, right? Every child of God owes their relationship to God, as their Father, to having been adopted by Him. God used "adoption" as a means of expressing His relationship with us, because ancient law held that an adopted child could never be disowned.

If God adopts you, you stay adopted. Romans 8:15-16 tells us that we have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out "Abba! Father!" and His Spirit bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God. The last verses of that chapter tell us that as children of God, nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus.

If you haven't been adopted, offer yourself as a candidate to the Father, and I'll see you in church.
