OBITUARIES

Jean Cooper Edge

Jean Cooper Edge, 73, of Foley, died Monday, October 15, 2007, at South Baldwin Regional Medical Center in Foley.

Mrs. Edge was born Feb. 22, 1934 in Empire. She worked for 30 years in civil service before going to work for NASA in 1977. She was a logistics management specialist from the beginning of the space shuttle program until she retired April 30, 1983 from NASA's JFK Space Center.

The funeral was held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 18, at Good Hope Baptist Church in Grove Hill with the Rev. Thomas Reeves officiating. Burial was in Good Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Edge is survived by one daughter, Sandra K. Dorff of Foley; her mother, Grace Cooper of Empire; two sisters, Judith (William) Armstrong of Fultondale and Linda (Thomas) Reeves of Sumiton; and one brother, Lee Roy Cooper of Empire.

Mrs. Edge was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Ray Edge.

Pallbearers were Ron Edge, Bill Newsome, Bobby Baugh, Ralph Hudson, Gerald Edge, Bill Hill, Dr. Robert Edge and Al Moore.

Memorials may be made to the Good Hope Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.

Charlie Earl George

Charlie Earl George, 52, died Sunday, October 14, 2007, at Agnew Nursing Home in Greensboro.

Mr. George was born May 11, 1955 in Mobile to Louella George.

The funeral was held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 20, at Mosley's Funeral Home in Thomasville, with the Rev. Edward Mosley officiating. Burial was in Walnut Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. George is survived by his mother, Louella George Smith of Morvin; four sisters, Jurlee Westbrooks of Greensboro, Rosetta (Mark) Black and Barbara J. Smith, both of Morvin and Lucile (Fred) Grayson of Birmingham; two brothers, John L. (Joann) Smith and Willis (Betty) Smith Jr. of Morvin; and one aunt, Luvenia Cade of Putnam.

Ernest Alvin Lolley

Ernest Alvin Lolley, 76, of Linden died at his home October 17, 2007.

Mr. Lolley was born Aug. 18, 1931, in Uniontown to Clifton and Dera Lolley. He was a retired machine operator from James River Corporation. He was also a former Marengo County Deputy Sheriff and a Linden city councilman. Mr. Lolley was a member of Linden Baptist Church and was an Army veteran having served in the Korean Conflict.

The funeral was held at 3 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 21, at Linden Baptist Church with Dr. Randy Creel and Dr. Jerry Gunnells officiating. Burial was in Linden Memorial Park in Linden.

Mr. Lolley is survived by two sons, Robert Keith Lolley of Marietta, Ga. and Charles Richard "Rick" (Jenise) Lolley of Van Buren, Ark.; two sisters, Dera Lafta and Coleman Rainey, both of Selma; and four grandchildren, Elliott Keith Lolley and Hannah Snow Lolley, both of Chambersburg, Pa., and Charles Patrick Lolley and Jason Andrew Lolley, both of Van Buren, Ark.

Mr. Lolley was preceded in death by his wife, Reba Snow Lolley; and two brothers, Raymond O. Lolley and Melvin C. Lolley.

Pallbearers were John Mansfield, Dennis Mason, Ed Singleton, Harry Huckabee, Joe Falls and Johnny Arnett.

Honorary pallbearers were Brady Creel, Jack Crocker, Oscar Spencer, Warren Stokes, Hubert Thornton and the Men's III Sunday School Class of Linden Baptist Church.

Sarah Frances Thomas Maness

Sarah Frances Thomas Maness, 84, of Arlington, died Thursday, October 18, 2007, at her home.

Mrs. Maness was born Nov. 9, 1922 in Camden. She was a member of County Line Baptist Church and had been employed as a nurse.

The funeral was held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 20, with the Rev. Marvin Smith Jr. and the Rev. David Boyd officiating. Burial was in County Line Baptist Church Cemetery in Arlington.

Mrs. Maness is survived by three sons, James David (Mar - gie) Maness, Roger Thomas (Sue) Maness and Walter Lamar Maness, all of Arlington; one daughter Sarah Eugenia (Larry) Durant of Camden; one brother, Printice Lee Thomas of Hope Hull; one sister, Mary Alma Pope of Wetumpka; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Maness was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Eugene Maness; one brother, Dave Henly Thomas Jr.; and one sister, Willie Eugenia Ethridge.

Pallbearers were Eric Agee, Gene Agee, Lance Maness, Jake Roe, Wayne Cooper and Kenneth Stockman.

Honorary pallbearers were Chester Patrick, Lamar Stockman, Raymond Roughton and Roy Maness.

Willie Pearl Owens

Willie Pearl Owens, 81, of Dickinson, died October 18, 2007, at Regency Hospital in Meridian, Miss.

Mrs. Owens retired as a housekeeper at the courthouse.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m., Oct. 27, at Midway Baptist Church in Dickinson with the Rev. William Sharp. Burial will be in Midway Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Owens is survived by her husband, Joseph Owens Sr.; six sons, Arthur Owens, John Owens, Frazier Owens, Henry Owens, George Owens and Joseph Owens Jr.; four daughters, Diane Grayson, Gloria Dumas, Barbara Allen and Willie Vaughn; 35 grandchildren; and 66 great-grandchildren.

Phyllis Marilyn Glass Penton

Phyllis Marilyn Glass Penton died October 17, 2007, in Jay, Fla.

The funeral was held at 2 p.m., Friday, Oct. 19, at Jay Funeral Home with the Rev. Virginia Beckham officiating. Burial was in Pineview United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Penton is survived by her husband, Richard Penton; two sons, Kenny Ray and Chris (Tiffany) Ray III; two daughters, Sheila (Gary) Baker and Becky Ray; one brother, Marvin (Sherrill) Glass; one sister, Nina (Roger) Etheridge; and 10 grandchildren.

Mrs. Penton was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Virgaline Glass; and one brother, Gerald Glass.

Pallbearers were B.D. Hendricks, Ricky Smith, Dan Penton, Howard Penton, Paul Bradley, Adam Baker, Daniel Baker and Bobby Skelton.

Honorary pallbearers were Cecil Phillips, Dr. C. David Smith, Willie George Salter, Marvin Glass Jr., Charlie Glass and Roger Etheridge Jr.

Etura Lucille Kiker Shoultz

Etura Lucille Kiker Shoultz, 94, formerly of Birmingham, died October 16, 2007, at Moundville Health and Rehab.

Graveside service was held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 20, at Pine Hill Cemetery in Pine Hill.

Mrs. Shoultz was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie Trice Shoultz; her parents, Cap and Emma Kiker; two brothers, Leo Kiker and Houston Kiker; and one sister, Margarie McCullough.

Mrs. Shoultz is survived by one daughter, Etura Kaye Shoultz of Moundville, formerly of Birmingham; one son, Lonnie Trice (Carol) Shoultz Jr. of Foley; one sister, Vera Merle Cooper of Cottondale; nieces Rita (Derry) Meade, Wanda (Kenny) Morrison and Christi (Barry) Palmer; and grandchildren, Russell Trice Shoultz of Slidell, La. and Kaylyn Brooke Shoultz of Gulfport, Miss.

James Ernest Tyler

James Ernest Tyler, 75, of Montgomery, died Sunday, October 21, 2007, at Capitol Hill Health Care Center in Montgomery.

Mr. Tyler was born June 26, 1932 in Pine Hill.

Mr. Tyler is survived by two sisters, Nora Rutledge of Dickinson and Eva Thomas of Birmingham; and two brothers, Clayton Tyler of Birmingham and Redden Tyler Jr. of Slidell, La.

Cremation arrangements were handled by O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville.

Inez White

Inez White, 92, of Dixons Mills, died at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, October 16, 2007, at Southwest Medical Center in Thomasville.

Mrs. White was born Feb. 21, 1915, to General Pritchett and Lottie (Harper) Pritchett. She began her education in Marengo County, and later moved to several urban cities including Mobile, Birmingham and Patterson, N.J. She settled in Paris, Ky., where she spent more than 40 years before retiring from a catering department where she was known as the "top chef."

After retirement she moved back to her roots to take care of her mother, Lottie, who lived to be 119 years old.

The funeral was held at 1 p.m., Monday, Oct. 22, at New Hope No. 1 Baptist Church in Thomasville with the Rev. James Curry officiating and Sudie B. Hunter, emcee. Burial was in Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. White is survived by one daughter, Louise Pritchett of Pine Hill; grandchildren, Deloid (Gail), Herman (Susie), Lorenzo (Veronica) of Fort Washington, Md., Johnny (Cynthia) of Upper Marlboro, Md., Joseph of Elkridge, Md., Dexter (fiance LaKeesha) of District Heights, Md., Bobby and Rickey of Pine Hill, Wilbert of Camden, Geneva (Dennis) of Oxon Hill, Md., Shirley (William), Rose (Joseph) of Waldorf, Md.; 42 great-grandchildren, 25 greatgreat grandchildren; and two great-great-great-grandchildren.
