Community events need you to show up
OUR VIEW
Events in any city or town never "just happen." They're the result of a lot of time planning, preparing, sweating and heavy lifting.

So it is with the homecoming parade and pep rally downtown Thursday and the Ghost Walk Saturday.

Both events require the ingredients listed above, and last but most importantly, they require people.

Volunteers are always needed to help pull off these community events that make life in our town a little better. And they require another unique form of participation. They need you to show and have a good time.

Now that's not asking much is it? Most of the time, events like these are free or very low cost, again thanks to the tireless efforts of volunteers who want to see good things happen for our community.

Even if you can't help by being a part of the volunteers who put on these events, you can still help them by showing up and enjoying their hard work. The organizers and volunteers who work so hard on these events derive a great sense of gratification by seeing enthusiastic crowds enjoying their handiwork.

So, even if you're not putting something in the homecoming parade, or even if Ghost stories aren't your thing, you can still come down, join in the fun and socialize with your fellow community members. After all, that's what community events are all about - the community, and that includes you.

Consider this your invitation.
