It's homecoming week at Thomasville High School
School News
Jennifer Henson
"Busy as bees" describes our students at Thomasville High School this homecoming week. Monday our students flounced around school in tacky clothing to show off their school spirit. On Tuesday there were twins galore around campus, and Wednesday there was a bit of confusion when girls dressed as boys and boys dressed as girls. On Thursday, students will show off their "studious" side and dress out for Nerd Day. And finally, on Friday, students will dress in woeful attire as we mourn the loss of our soon-tobe opponents on Friday night.

Homecoming parade and pep rally will be held Thursday in the streets of downtown Thomasville. On Thursday, students will be dismissed from school at 2 p.m. Parade line-up will be at 4 p.m. and the parade will begin at 5 p.m. A pep rally will be held at 6 o'clock in front of People's Corner.

In homecoming spirit Friday we will replace our normal pep rally with a funeral for the Monroe County Tigers.

Kick-off for the homecoming game will be at 7 p.m. as usual. The homecoming ceremonies will be held during halftime.

Congratulations to the following girls for being elected as the homecoming court for the 2007 football season: Freshmen - Lindsey Overstreet and Olivia Washington; sophomores - Desirea Bettis and Sloan Utsey; juniors - Kaitlin Day and Morgan Downey; seniors - Camelia Forte, Abbey Rish and Jeanette Sewell. The homecoming queen will be announced Friday night during halftime.

CONTRIBUTED PHOTO Tuesday during Thomasville High School's homecoming week, on "Twins" day Carol Ann Day became the twin of Coach Adam Elliot.
Also on Friday an alumni reception will be held from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. for all alumni who graduated in a year ending with 7. The high school will be opened for these alumni to tour the campus and see what has changed since they were around. A banquet will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the high school cafeteria for the graduating class of 1957. Congratulations to these alumni on their 50th anniversary.

Let us not forget the outstanding victory over Southside Selma Friday night. The Tigers defeated Southside 31-14. Keep that in mind guys and bring home another on homecoming!

Congratulations to the girls' volleyball team on their victory over Daleville in Opp at the regional tournament. The girls will now advance to sub-state in Montgomery on Thursday, Oct. 25, at 4:30 p.m. where they will be playing Alabama Christian. Keep up the great work girls!

In all the homecoming business, students do not forget that Monday is the last day for yearbook orders.

Last but not least, there will be a team of students traveling to Jacksonville on Wednesday, Oct. 31, to compete in a writer's bowl competition. This is the first time Thomasville High School has competed in such an event and these students have been sharpening their writing skills. Good Luck to the Writer's Bowl team!

Until next time, I'm Jennifer Henson. Have a great week and safe travels!
