The Sweet Water Bulldogs kept their season record perfect at 7 - 0 this past Friday, October 19, when they traveled to Millport and blasted the South Lamar Stallions 61 - 0. The win also clinched the Region 4 championship for the Bulldogs who are 5 - 0 in that category.

In the game, the Bulldog offense picked up 440 total yards and scored on every possession while the special teams added eight points to the total. The defense was just as impressive as they held the Stallions to -16 yards rushing and only 23 total yards of offense. "I thought we played pretty well overall Friday night," Bulldog Coach Stacy Luker said. I was pleased with the way we set the tone and took care of business early. I also thought our special teams play was good again. We've been showing improvement in that area each week."

Offensive leaders for the Bulldogs on the ground were Anthony Landrum with 67 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries and Desmond Bouler with 64 yards and one touchdown on four carries. In the air Drew Luker was 3 for 7 for 60 yards.

Over on defense Delano Brewer led the charge with eight tackles followed by Johnny Lockett and Drew Luker with six stops each. In another big play Cordaryl Curtis blocked a South Lamar punt out of the endzone for a safety.

The Bulldogs got things rolling early in the game taking their opening possession in for points. Anthony Landrum picked up the touchdown when he rumbled in from 12 yards out. Scottie Nelson added the extra-point and the Bulldogs led 7 - 0 with 10:14 left in the first quarter.

Sweet Water added to their lead at the 8:20 mark of the first quarter when Anthony Landrum picked up his second touchdown of the game on a 3 yard plunge. Nelson's extrapoint attempt was blocked but the Bulldog lead was 13 - 0.

That ended the scoring in the first period but the Bulldogs got started scoring again early in the second quarter when Damaraquis Williams dove in from one yard out with 9:20 to play in quarter. Scottie Nelson was on target with the extrapoint and the Sweet Water lead stood at 20 - 0.

Drew Luker got in on the act less than two minutes later when he darted in from five yards out. Scottie Nelson split the up rights and the Bulldogs led 27 - 0 with 7:00 minutes of the second quarter remaining.

Keeping their string of consecutive possessions with a touchdown alive, Johnny Lockett was the next Bulldog to strike pay dirt when waltzed in from 13 yards out with 1:21 to play in the second period. Nelson's kick was true and the Sweet Water lead was 34 - 0.

The special teams answered the call on the Bulldogs' next two scores. First, when Cordaryl Curtis blocked a South Lamar punt out of the end zone for a safety with :09 remaining before intermission and second, when Anthony Landrum returned the ensuing free kick 60 yards for a touchdown on the final play of the first half. The extra-point try following Landrum's touchdown was no good but the safety and touchdown raised the Bulldog lead to 42 - 0 as the teams retired to the locker rooms for the halftime break.

Despite substituting freely throughout the final two quarters, the Bulldogs picked up right where they left off in the first half scoring twice in the third quarter and once in the fourth.

Cordaryl Curtis got the Bulldogs' first points of the second half when he scampered in from 24 yards out with 9:19 to play in the quarter. Scottie Nelson tacked on the extrapoint and Sweet Water led 49 0.

Chris Landrum struck pay dirt next for Sweet Water barreling in from one yard out with :07 remaining in the third stanza. The extra-point attempt missed the mark but the Bulldogs led 55 - 0 at that point.

The final points of the night came with 3:41 to play in the fourth quarter when Desmond Bouler scooted in from 9 yards out. The extra-point failed once again making the final 61-0.

Up next for the Bulldogs is their final region match-up with the John Essex Hornets. It will be a special time for the Bulldogs and all their fans as they will be celebrating homecoming with a number of festivities planned during the week.

The game between John Essex and Sweet Water is scheduled for Friday, October 26, at Nolan Atkins Stadium in Sweet Water with kickoff set for 7:00 PM.
