Panthers lose to Wildcats The Marengo High School Panthers went on the road to Millry this past Friday, October 19, and suffered a 35 - 6 loss at the hands of the undefeated and number 7 ranked Wildcats. With the loss the Panthers fell to 4 - 3 on the season and 3 - 3 in the region while the Wildcats improved to 8 - 0 and 6 - 0. In the game, Millry accumulated 200 yards of total offense while holding the Panthers to only 22 yards. "Millry has a very good team and they had a great game plan for us," Marengo Coach Scottie Jones said. "What can you say? They beat us in every phase of the game. All we can do at this point is regroup and work hard this week getting ready for a good McIntosh team." In the loss the offensive leaders on the ground for the Panthers were; Ontarrio Woods with 28 yards on six carries, James Bennett with five yards on six carries and Marcus Richardson with three yards on two carries. The Panthers failed to pick up any yards through the air. The defensive leaders for the Panthers were Jeremy Bouler with 12 tackles and one sack; Kaylos Pritchett with 11 tackles and a pass interception; and Larrence Pritchett with nine tackles and a sack. Corey Noid was next with seven tackles followed by Hakeem Hildreth and Quintin Watkins with six stops apiece. The first quarter of the game proved to be a defensive struggle with the only points coming on the first play from scrimmage when the Panthers were trapped for a safety. The play was set up by a Panther fumble on the opening kickoff that forced them to start their first series at one yard line. With a 2 - 0 lead going into the second quarter, the home standing Wildcats took control of the game scoring 20 more points in the second frame to take a 22 - 0 lead to the locker room at half time. Millry increased their lead to 28 - 0 mid-ways the third quarter when they scored on a 32 yard pass play. Marengo did manage to cut into the lead late in the third stanza when Corey Noid, in one of the few bright moments in the game for the Panthers, took a Millry punt in at his 10 yard line and raced 90 yards to pay dirt. The extra-point attempt failed but the Wildcat lead had been trimmed to 28 - 6 with 1:40 remaining in the quarter. Millry added another touchdown in the fourth quarter to make the final 35 - 6 in their region clinching victory. The Panthers face the McIntosh Demons this week in the final region game for both teams while the Wildcats travel to Coffeeville to take on another set of Panthers.
The game between Marengo and McIntosh is scheduled for Friday, October 26, at "The Swamp" in Dixons Mills with kickoff set for 7:00 PM.
