By Arthur McLean Editor

PHOTO BY ARTHUR MCLEAN Marlo Anderson was announced as the new director of the Southwest Alabama Chamber of Commerce.
After seeing the Southwest Alabama Chamber through a transitional period where it went being a city entity to living on its own, Marilyn Morgan stepped down as the chamber's interim director in October.

Hired last week to fill her shoes is Marlo Anderson.

"I'm excited to become a part of the chamber, and I look forward to working with all our members," she said.

Anderson is a native of Mobile and moved to Thomasville in 1993. She is married to Chuck Anderson and has one daughter.

She spent most of her first week on the job going from business to business in Thomasville and the surrounding communities introducing herself and delivering copies of the chamber's new resource guide. "That has gone really well, everyone has been welcoming and friendly," she said. "That has been a major early goal, to visit with our members and see what we can improve and do to help them."

As a new director, Anderson said her focus will be continuing to build the relationships developed with it members and to continue building the chamber's membership rolls.

New plans for the chamber include developing a newsletter for members, luncheon speakers and a series of workshops on things like customer service and other business problem areas.

Anderson said she hopes programs like those she's outlined will help members and clear up some of the questions she has received about the chamber's role in the area.

"I've found a lot of members are unsure about just what a chamber does, and we hope to answer those questions," she said.
