The Thomasville High School Lady Tiger volleyball team ended their season this past Thursday, October 25, when they fell to Alabama Christian Academy in the Sub- State round of the AHSAA State Playoffs. The Lady Eagles took the best three out of five match by winning the first three games 25 - 14, 25 - 7, and 25 - 14.

To qualify for the Sub-State level of the playoffs the Lady Tigers won their Area 1 tournament defeating both Escambia County and Monroe County in the single elimination tournament to claim the crown. From there they advanced to the Regional Tournament A which was held in Opp. The field for the tournament included the area champions and area runner ups from Areas 1, 2, 3, and 4. At that level of the playoffs the Lady Tigers defeated the Lady Warhawks from Daleville before losing to the Lady Bulldogs of Andalusia and then the Lady Bobcats from Opp in the consolation game. Despite the losses to Andalusia and Opp, Thomasville qualified for the Sub-State Tournament which included the top four finishers at each of the Regional tournaments.

The Lady Tigers who led the charge for Thomasville in the Sub-State Tournament were: Twarner Witherspoon with 12 spikes, eight blocks, 2 assists and seven dinks; Nicole Washington with four spikes, 1 assist and three dinks; Shelby Myers with three spikes, one block and two dinks; and Rachel Norris the team's setter with 32 assists and six dinks.

With the loss the Lady Tigers ended their season with a 15 - 10 record which pleased Coach LaTonya Woods. "I am very proud of the effort this team gave all season," Coach Woods said. "It would have been easy for them to give up on things early on when we got off to a rocky start but to their credit they just kept on working hard and it paid dividends as we got into the second half of the season. A lot of the credit has to go to our seniors Katie Simon and Nicole Washington who gave us great leadership. With them leading the way the team laid a foundation for next years team to build on. We have a lot of young but talented players returning next season and I am excited about what they can accomplish."
