The McIntosh Demons came from behind in the fourth quarter this past Friday, October 26, to defeat the Marengo Panthers 20 - 18 in a game played in Dixons Mills at "The Swamp". With the loss the Panthers fell to 4 and 4 on the season and 3 and 4 in region play. The loss also ended the Panthers' hopes of making a return trip to the AHSAA State Playoffs this year.

In the game, which was plagued by four Marengo fumbles, the Panthers picked up 298 yards of offense with 239 coming on the ground and 59 through the air. Leading the Panther rushing attack was Corey Noid with 144 yards and one touchdown on 13 carries. Following him was: Kaylos Pritchett with 60 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries; Michael Watkins with 37 yards on seven carries; and Ontarrio Woods with 18 yards on seven carries. In the air quarterback James Bennett was 6 for 14 for 59 yards. Hauling in Bennett's passes were: James Dumas with three catches for 46 yards; Michael Watkins with two catches for three yards; and Jeremy Bouler with two catches for 10 yards.

Over on defense the Panthers were led by Jeremy Bouler with 18 tackles and one sack followed by Kaylos Pritchett with 14 tackles and one sack, Larrence Pritchett with 10 tackles, and Quintin Watkins with seven tackles and one sack.

The first quarter of the game was a defensive battle royal with neither team being able to put points on the scoreboard.

Things began to pick up in the second quarter with the Panthers scoring on a one yard plunge by Kaylos Pritchett. The extra-point attempt failed but Marengo was on top 6 - 0. The lead was short lived however as the Demons came roaring back to score a touchdown and add the two point conversion that would ultimately be the deference in the game.

With Marengo trailing 8 - 6 as the second half began, both teams added to their point totals in the third quarter with the Demons scoring once and the Panthers striking pay dirt twice.

The first of the two Panther touchdowns came when Kaylos Pritchett scampered into the endzone from nine yards out. Corey Noid rambled 44 yards for the second Panther touchdown later in the period. The extra-point attempt by the Demons as well as both of those by the Panthers were no good leaving Panthers on top at the end of he third quarter 18 - 14.

That set the stage for the Demons' fourth quarter rally which saw then score the final points of the night, handing the Panthers the heartbreaking 20 - 18 loss.

Coming up this week is the Panthers' season ending match-up with County rival A. L. Johnson. The Eagles who have clinched a berth in the 1A State Playoffs will be traveling to Dixons Mills hoping to pick up a win that will give them momentum as they head into the playoffs. The Panthers on the other hand will be working hard to win this final game of the season which will allow them to finish the year with a winning record at 5 and 4.

The game between Marengo and A. L. Johnson is scheduled for this Friday, November 2, in Dixons Mills at "The Swamp" with kickoff set for 7:00 PM.
