Honoring Our Troops

All area veterans are invited to a Veterans Day reception and program Thursday, Nov. 8, at Thomasville High School. The reception will be held at 1:45 p.m. in the school library. The program will follow at 2:30 p.m. in the gym with guest speaker Brig. Gen. Wendel McLain, commander of the 31st Chemical Brigade of West Alabama, Army National Guard.

Joshua Hill memorial fund

A fund has been set up for the family of Joshua Wayne Hill of Thomasville who was killed in a vehicle accident Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 30, near Meridian, Miss. Memorials may be made to Sweet Water State Bank for the Joshua Hill Children's Trust Fund.

Pioneer Day

The Clarke County Museum's Eighth Annual Pioneer Day will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 10 at the Clarke County Museum in Grove Hill. For more information contact the museum at 251-275-8684.

Blood drive

American Red Cross will hold a "Thanks for giving!" blood drive

Sunday, Nov. 11,

from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., on the Red Cross Bus at the Thomasville Wal-Mart. All donors will receive a T-shirt and stress ball and will also be entered to win two Delta Air Line domestic tickets.

Veterans' dinner

All area veterans will are invited to a dinner in their honor from 12 noon to 2 p.m., Monday, Nov. 12, at the Thomasville Armory on Highway 43. The dinner is sponsored by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and the Tri County Pearls of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Golf tournament

Grove Hill Memorial Hospital Auxiliary will sponsor its Ninth Annual Benefit Golf Tournament at 12 noon, Thursday, Nov. 15, at the TimberCreek Golf Course in Daphne. For more information contact Catherine Neal at 251- 275-8401 or Emily Steadham at 251-275-3191.

ACS recruiting volunteers

The American Cancer Society is recruiting volunteers from Washington, Clarke and Choctaw counties to become Look Good...Feel Better facilitators. Look Good...Feel Better is a free program offered to cancer patients by the American Cancer Society. This program helps women cope with the appearance related side effects of cancer treatments. The American Cancer Society will be holding a training next Wednesday, Nov. 14 at 1 p.m. at the Mobile office of the American Cancer Society. On Thursday, Nov. 15, the American Cancer Society will urge all Americans using tobacco to stop using for the day and become aware of the many support methods available to help stay quit for good. Thanksgiving bake sale

A Thanksgiving bake sale will be held beginning at 9 a.m., Friday, Nov. 16, at the Bank of Pine Hill, 3939 Broad Street in Pine Hill. Proceeds will benefit the Town of Pine Hill Museum. For special orders call 334-963-4343.

Beef brisket plates

James Bonds Company, across from Grove Hill Courthouse, will be selling beef brisket plates for $6 beginning at 12 noon, Friday, Nov. 16. Proceeds will be donated to A Secret Safe Place for Newborns. For tickets call Amy S. Duke at 275-3144 or Robin Williams at 275-1234.

Brunswick stew sale

The Nanafalia Community Association will be selling Brunswick stew at the Old Nanafalia School House in Nanafalia on Saturday, Nov. 17. Stew will be sold by the gallon for $25 and by the quart for $6.25. To place an order call Erline at 736-4243 or Sue at 736-4361. Pick up will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Proceeds go to upkeep of building.

SWAIA meeting

The Southwest Alabama Improvement Association monthly meeting and community information forum will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 20, at Jackson Steakhouse Restaurant in Jackson. The issues to be discussed include 1.) Establishing a county-wide Parents, Teachers and Students Association in Clarke, Washington and other interested surrounding counties. 2.) Information on annual enrollment or planned changes in an individual's Medicare Prescription Drug Program, Medicare Part D. ANON Meets

AL-ANON meets every Thursday night at 6:30 at Pineview Baptist Church (enter door at Moore Street entrance behind church). For more information call 636-9985.

Story hour at the library

The Thomasville Public Library has openings in the story hour programs for threeyear olds and in the K-fourth grade class. Three-year olds' (Reading Bees) story hour is held each Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The K-fourth graders (Dragonflies) meet from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., each Tuesday. These programs require registration, so anyone interested is asked to come by the library.

Homework assignments

Thomasville Middle School and Thomasville High School homework assignments are posted by all teachers each week. They are published by 4 p.m. every Monday for that week.
