Making the big decisions
Sometimes, when we're confronted with a big decision, it's something we rightly know will change the current course of life. I was faced with such a decision when I was presented the opportunity to come to Thomasville three years ago. I'd made some very good friends where I was and life outside work was beginning to take shape in a fulfilling way after about a year there. But things were far from perfect, and I knew I'd have to make a decision about my future, and change was likely going to be an inevitable part of it. It wasn't easy, and I prayed quite a bit for guidance on the matter. Well, today you can see for yourself the decision I made, and it was certainly the right one. But I really didn't know if I was making the right decision until after it was already here. But it was one of those big decisions, and like others, it changed the course of my life. And in this case, it was certainly for the better. Just recently, I made another one of those big decisions. And this past weekend, I asked Bridgett Shewmake to marry me. She said yes if you want to know. And again, the decision was made after a good bit a prayer on the matter. Yet another big change in the course of life is coming up now. So how does it feel? Great so far! I've found a friend and someone to love in the same person. There's a calmness that's come over me the past couple of days that says it's right. Of course, I'll be 35 soon and pretty set in my ways about some things, so some of those changes in life's course might not be easy, but I know they'll be worth it.
And if you happen to be confronting one of those big decisions in your life, all I can say is, honest prayer and listening to your heart and keeping yourself open to God's desire is, in my humble experience, the best way to go.
