Ask and keep on asking God for whatever you need
But now there are actually places north of us that have been experiencing flooding, some people have lost everything, homes, farms, livestock and businesses. Our hearts go out to them for their loss. Our hearts also go out to our own people in the U.S. where heat waves and drought have taken a terrible toll in many areas. One thing is the same wherever you go, man is affected by the weather more than the weather is affected by man. Man has been trying to do something about the weather for a long time, and all that time our most effective tool, has been what we do only as a last resort. I am referring to prayer. When I was pastor at Damascus Baptist Church, I read in the history of the Greenville Baptist Association about a drought many long years ago in the area around Butler County. Everyone was feeling the effect of the heat and the lack of rain. Finally someone suggested that the people come together to pray for rain, and that is just what they did. People came from miles around and gathered at the church and they prayed for God to send rain, and the report stated that some had difficulty getting home because the roads were blocked by the streams that had overflowed their banks. James 5:17 tells us that Elijah was a man just like us, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain and there was no rain for 3 years and 6 months, then he prayed again and it rained.
Maybe God has reserved control of the weather for Himself so that we won't forget how dependent we are on Him. In Matthew 7:7-8, Jesus told us to ask and keep on asking, seek and keep on seeking and knock and keep on knocking. Ask God, get your umbrella and I'll see you in church.
