AREA CALENDAR Thanksgiving bake sale A Thanksgiving bake sale will be held beginning at 9 a.m., Friday, Nov. 16, at the Bank of Pine Hill, 3939 Broad Street in Pine Hill. Proceeds will benefit the Town of Pine Hill Museum. For special orders call 334-963- 4343. Beef brisket plates James Bonds Company, across from Grove Hill Courthouse, will be selling beef brisket plates for $6 beginning at 12 noon, Friday, Nov. 16. Proceeds will be donated to A Secret Safe Place for Newborns. For tickets call Amy S. Duke at 275-3144 or Robin Williams at 275-1234. Horse show A horse show will be held at Bessie W. Munden Recreational Park, 194 Bessie Munden Road in Camden, beginning at 12 noon, Saturday, Nov. 17. Other activities during the day will include a sack race, stick horse race, hula-hoop contest, egg race, table games and more. Concessions will be available. Brunswick stew sale The Nanafalia Community Association will be selling Brunswick stew at the Old Nanafalia School House in Nanafalia on Saturday, Nov. 17. Stew will be sold by the gallon for $25 and by the quart for $6.25. To place an order call Erline at 736-4243 or Sue at 736-4361. Pick up will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Proceeds go to upkeep of building. Christmas Lights project The town of Sunny South is again sponsoring "Christmas Lights," a project to beautify the community at the holiday season. It will be a time to remember those who, in the past, did much for the area, and to recognize citizens still in our midst. A ceremony will be held. The name of the person being honored or memorialized will be printed on a program. The name of the person making the donation will also appear in the program. As many lights may be purchased as wanted at a cost of $7 donation for each light and will remain in place through the Christmas and New Year holidays. Anyone interested in participating contact Ethel B. Parham, Raymond Norwood or Mr. and Mrs. Alonzo H. Purser. Deadline to accept applications and donations is Nov. 20. SWAIA meeting The Southwest Alabama Improvement Association monthly meeting and community information forum will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 20, at Jackson Steakhouse Restaurant in Jackson. The issues to be discussed include 1.) Establishing a county-wide Parents, Teachers and Students Association in Clarke, Washington and other interested surrounding counties. 2.) Information on annual enrollment or planned changes in an individual's Medicare Prescription Drug Program, Medicare Part D. Joshua Hill memorial fund A fund has been set up for the family of Joshua Wayne Hill, of Thomasville who was killed in a vehicle accident. Memorials may be made to Sweet Water State Bank for the Joshua Hill Children's Trust Fund. ANON Meets AL-ANON meets every Thursday night at 6:30 at Pineview Baptist Church (enter door at Moore Street entrance behind church). For more information call 636-9985. Story hour at the library The Thomasville Public Library has openings in the story hour programs for threeyear olds and in the K-fourth grade class. Three-year olds' (Reading Bees) story hour is held each Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The K-fourth graders (Dragonflies) meet from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., each Tuesday. These programs require registration, so anyone interested is asked to come by the library. Homework assignments Thomasville Middle School and Thomasville High School homework assignments are posted by all teachers each week. They are published by 4 p.m. every Monday for that week. 24th Peterman Station The 24th annual Peterman Station Arts and Crafts Festival will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 17, in downtown Peterman, six miles north of Monroeville.
