Pope out of prison after murder plea
By Arthur McLean Editor

Angela Ingram Pope of Bashi, who pleaded guilty to murder in 2000, was released from prison on Oct. 24. She is out on what is called a supervised re-entry program.

Pope pleaded guilty to the charge of murdering her husband Shelton Pope when she was 42 years old.

According to law reports, Pope shocked her husband with a stun gun while he was sleeping. After binding his hands and feet she placed duct tape over his mouth and nose so he was unable to breath. She then covered his head with a plastic bag and beat his head with a barbell. She was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

In 2005, Pope petitioned for early release. At the time District Attorney Spence Walker opposed early release and said he would oppose her transfer to a LIFE Tech facility until Pope had served at least five years.
