Don't settle for imitation
Spiritual Reflections
Pat Ozment Jr. IMB Missionary to Ghana
I'm resting, after not watching the baseball playoffs, college football or the NFLon TV.

I'm ok, but I'm worried about Peggy. She is doing something with a goat's bladder and some skin from a pig.

They don't have much over here in the way of sports, although I saw a bunch of kids fooling around in an empty field with a funny looking white ball. I think it started out to be a basketball, but they ran short of materials and they had to make it out of little pieces of leather sown together. It was only half the size it was supposed to be.

It did not matter, because they did not have basketball goals, and none of them who were playing were tall enough to be any good at that game. They settled for running up and down the field kicking their funny looking ball. Every now, and then, one of them would butt it with his head. I started to suggest to them that they might have more fun if they just grabbed the thing and ran with it, but I didn't want to intrude, not being from around here.

Anyway they had seen someone play football somewhere, because they had goal posts at each end of the field. Only thing was, they ran out of wood before they were finished with the goal post, and they didn't have crossbars. Funniest thing, they stretched mosquito netting between the goal post and that way they didn't have to chase the ball if went in between them, which seemed to be the object of their play.

Maybe if Peggy gets her football made, she will loan it to them so they can have a real game. What they have now will never catch on, but right now, what they have is the only game in town.

You know, Jesus has the only game going when it comes to getting into heaven. In John 14:6 Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

Jesus is the real deal. Don't settle for an imitation and I'll see you in church
