TMS boys win first one The Thomasville Middle School boys basketball team opened their season on Thursday, November 1, with a 47 - 25 win over the Jackson Middle School boys team. In the win the TMS Tigers jumped out to a 15 - 0 lead and then cruised to the final 22 point win. "I was proud of our enthusiasm and the way we played hard and with a lot of class the entire game," Tiger Coach Russell Wright said. "Because we were able to get out to the early lead we were able to get everybody in the game which gave some of our younger guys some valuable minutes of experience." Leading the scoring for TMS against the Aggies was James Bettis with 14 points, John Knight with eight points, and Tyler Hayes with seven points. Others contributing to the cause were: Xavier Landrum with six points; Tevin Watters and Monterrio Evans with five points each; and Lukador Lainer with two points. On the boards Hayes led the way with 15 rebounds followed by Bettis and Evans with six apiece. Bettis and Evans were the assists leaders with four apiece. On defense Evans led the charge with six steals followed by Bettis, Knight, and Watters with three each. Hayes had three blocked shots to lead the team in that area while Watters had two and Evans and Landrum picked up one apiece. TMS was back in action on Tuesday, November 6 when they took on the Wilson Hall Middle School Bulldogs. In this one the Bulldogs got out to the early lead going up 9 - 0 in the first quarter and then parlayed that into a 39 - 20 win. "Wilson Hall simply played very well," Coach Russell Wright said. "We got behind early and although we made a run in the third quarter, we just never could fully recover." Tyler Hayes led all Tiger scorers in the loss, picking up seven points. Monterrio Evans and Tevin Watters were next with six points each followed by James Bettis with three points and John Knight with two. On the boards Evans and Hayes pulled down nine rebounds each to lead the way while Knight grabbed six. Knight was the assists leader with three with Hayes and Watters picking up one apiece. On defense Evans, Knight, and Watters all recorded four steals while Bettis picked off three. Hayes once again led the way in blocked shots with four followed by Knight with three. Lukador Lainer and Watters also contributed one blocked shot in the game. The Tigers bounced back with a 57 - 28 win over the Leroy Middle School boys on Thursday, November 8. Like they had done against Jackson, the Tigers jumped out to an early lead going up 22 - 4 in the first quarter and extending it to 37 - 12 by halftime. "Once again we got out of the shoot quick and played hard all game," Coach Russell Wright said. "I continue to be pleased with our effort." In the scoring area James Bettis and Tyler Hayes set the pace for the Tigers pouring in 16 points each followed by John Knight with 10. Monterrio Evans knocked down six points and Tevin Watters added three while Alonzo Brown, Terrence Hyde, and Lukador Lanier chipped in two apiece. On the boards Hayes led the way with 13 followed by Evans with 11, Brown with seven and Lainer with six. Knight was the assist leader with five with Bettis recording three and Watters two.
On defense Knight led the charge with eight steals while Brown and Evans had three apiece. Hayes was the leader in the area of blocked shots with four followed by five others with one each.
