L-P gets first loads of timber
The first loads of timber for the new Louisiana Pacific oriented strand board (OSB) mill were delivered Tuesday and a brief ceremony noted the milestone in the progress of the new $230 million industry located off Highway 43 south of Thomasville. Silver Creek Logging and Fulton Logging trucks delivered the timber. A number of LP employees and management personnel attended as did county officials and others. Plant Manager Steve Doffitt used a huge pair of wooden scissors to cut red ribbons in front of each truck as Debbie Bolen of the Clarke County Economic Development Partnership assisted. The plant still plans to meet its goal of making OSB by the first of the new year. The plant will employ approximately 140 people. Earlier predictions were that an additional 300 spinoff jobs will be created. No comments have been posted. Be the first!
