AREA CALENDAR

Santa is coming

Attention all children - Santa Claus will be at the Thomasville Library from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 18. Make plans to be there. Come in your pajamas and bring a camera.

Chamber Christmas reception

The Southwest Alabama Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual Christmas reception to honor parade winners and the grand marshal at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 18, at the Thomasville United Methodist Church. PTA meeting

The F.S. Ervin Elementary School PTA meeting will be held at 4 p.m., Monday, Dec. 17, in the school's library.

Tip Off Club meeting

The Tip Off Club will hold its first meeting of the 2007-08 basketball season at 6 p.m., Monday, Dec. 17, at the Thomasville Middle School cafeteria. Anyone who has a child playing basketball at THS or TMS is asked to come. Business of importance will be discussed.

VFW meetings

VFW Post 5106 and its ladies auxiliary will have their regular monthly meetings and a Dutch treat Christmas dinner at 6:30 p.m., Monday, Dec. 17, at The Garden in Thomasville. All members are urged to come out and bring their spouses to show appreciation for what they have done for the VFW this year.

NAACP banquet

The Clarke County Chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored Peoples (NAACP) seventh annual banquet will be held at 7 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 15, at the Fulton Head Start Building. Guest speaker will be Elder Jimmy Allen, pastor of Church of God in Christ in Thomasville. Cost of the banquet is $25. For more information or to purchase a ticket contact Dr. O.L. Joshua Hill memorial fund

A fund has been set up for the family of Joshua Wayne Hill of Thomasville who was killed in a vehicle accident. Memorials may be made to Sweet Water State Bank for the Joshua Hill Children's Trust Fund.

Alabama coolers

The Boys and Girls Club has Alabama insulated coolers, featuring Alabama's last national championship game along with Gene Stallings, available in time for Christmas for $5. For more information call the Boys and Girls Club at 334-636-5402.

ANON Meets

AL-ANON meets every Thursday night at 6:30 at Pineview Baptist Church (enter door at Moore Street entrance behind church). For more information call 636-9985.

Story hour at the library

The Thomasville Public Library has openings in the story hour programs for threeyear olds and in the K-fourth grade class. Three-year olds' (Reading Bees) story hour is held each Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The K-fourth graders (Dragonflies) meet from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., each Tuesday. These programs require registration, so anyone interested is asked to come by the library.

Homework assignments

Thomasville Middle School and Thomasville High School homework assignments are posted by all teachers each week. They are published by 4 p.m. every Monday for that week.
