HOW TO GET SOMETHING IN THE PAPER The Thomasville Times is happy to publish news items for the public, most of which are free-of-charge. Anything brought to the paper should be accompanied by the name of a contact person and phone number, preferably written on the submission itself. Some of the items we publish free-of-charge include: engagements, birth announcements, obituaries, snake pictures, deer pictures, turkey pictures, fish pictures, large or unusual produce pictures, 50th wedding anniversary celebration write-ups, etc. If you have a picture you'd like for us to run, bring it on by. We can take color pictures, black-and-white pictures and pictures in digital format off a computer disk. You can even e-mail us your picture if you'll send it to us in JPEG format! Wedding articles should be submitted within four weeks of the wedding to be published without charge. Articles should be 500 words or less. There will be a cost for wedding write-ups that are longer than 500 words in length or that are published past the four-week deadline. Write-ups of showers and wedding parties should be submitted for publication as they occur. They will not be published with the wedding article. All submissions must fit the Times' writing style in order to be published without cost. Engagements should be run anywhere from four weeks before to the week before the wedding ceremony. The Times has forms on hand to help with the writing of engagement and wedding announcements as well as birth announcements. The Times gladly runs obituaries that are sent to us by reputable funeral homes. The Times will not run an obituary that isn't sent to us by a reputable funeral home without a certificate of death accompanying the submission. Letters To The Editor should be signed by the writer and have the writer's phone number for verification purposes. The Times will not run anonymous letters and will not run letters we deem libelous, inflammatory or irrelevant. The Thomasville Times will also edit all submissions for content, grammar and space allotments.
