The Thomasville High School Lady Tiger basketball team opened their 2007 - 2008 season on a sour note dropping a 61 - 50 decision this past Saturday, December 8, to the Lady Panthers of Marengo High School. In the game which was played on the road in Dixons Mills, the Thomasville Ladies fell behind 14 - 12 in the first quarter and never turned the tide. Turnovers and early foul trouble proved to be the difference in the game with the Lady Tigers giving the ball away 38 times in the course of the game. "Not to take anything away from the Marengo Lady Panthers, who are a good team, but, we certainly didn't play nearly as well as we are capable of playing," Lady Tiger Coach Curtis Lane said. "I take full responsibility for this loss because obviously I didn't have my kids prepared. We will go back to work on fundamentals and see if we can't get some things straightened out."

Leading the scoring for the Lady Tigers in the loss was Shelby Crawford with 21 points followed by Kierra Westbrook with eight and Tamara Robinson with seven. Others contributing to the total included; Candrea Welch with five points, Twarner Witherspoon with four, Ashley Crawford with three, and Britney Stallworth with two. Shelby Crawford was also the leader on the boards pulling down 13 rebounds. Witherspoon was next grabbing seven while Stallworth and Westbrook had four apiece.

Robinson was the assist leader with three while Nicole Washington, Welch, and Westbrook each had one. On defense the charge was led by Shelby Crawford and Witherspoon with four steals apiece.

The Lady Tigers were next scheduled to host the Lady Tigers of Choctaw County High School on Tuesday, December 11, in their home opener and then the Lady Demons from McIntosh on Saturday, December 15. The games will be the second of three games played on each date with the B-Teams kicking things off at 5:00 PM and the Varsities wrapping the night up.
