Three sex offenders arrested in sweep

Three sex offenders were arrested as part of a roundup of sex offenders Dec. 12 by the Clarke County Sheriff's Department and the Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force, said Ron Baggette, chief investigator with the sheriff's department.

"We received a tip that a fugitive that was wanted for sex crimes on minor children since the first of the year was in the Grove Hill area," he said. "(Officials) went to the residence, and a Deputy Marshal noticed the suspect, Leroy Cunningham Davis, 24, of Grove Hill, trying to escape out of a window in the rear of the residence.

"He (the suspect) noticed the deputies and went back inside. The house was surrounded, and the K-9 Deputy was called to the scene and entry was made. After a brief search was made of the residence, Davis was found inside of the refrigerator in the kitchen area and was apprehended.

Davis had been charged with rape, first degree; sex abuse, first degree; sodomy, first degree; and rape, second degree. The victims were a 14- year-old female and a 13-yearold female.

Also, later that day, officials went to the Jackson area in search of a convicted sex offender, Lecedrick Adams, 33, of Jackson, wanted for new charges of sexual abuse, first degree. Adams was found at a residence on East Spruce Street in Jackson.

"It was determined that he has been staying at this residence," Baggette said, "and he was also charged for failing the notification act due to being registered in Washington County as a sex offender but not in Clarke County.

In addition, Robin Williams, 36, was arrested in the Alma area for sex crimes to underage females. All three suspects were taken to the Clarke County Jail.

Assisting in these arrests were Baggett, Cpl. Steve Carlisle, K-9 Deputy Jim Mundie, Deputy Rob Bost, Sheriff Bobby Moore, Lt. Larry Sheffield, Coffeeville Police Chief Clint Harrell, and members of the Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force of the United States Marshal Service.
