Reeves to celebrate golden anniversary on Feb. 1
      On Feb. 1, 1958 at Pilgrims Rest Primitive Baptist Church in the McVay community near Jackson, James Bertram Reeves and Mary Joyce Dungan were married. Although they started their married life together at McVay they have lived and moved to several different places. When James joined the Army this took them to Fort Belvoir, Va. for about two years.

Alex and Crystal Sims announce birth of a daughter
      Alex and Crystal Sims of Thomasville announce the birth of their daughter Emma Nekol Sims, at 7:31 a.m., November 16, 2007, at Mobile Infirmary. She weighed 6 pounds, 14 ounces and was 20 inches long. Maternal grandparents are Jean Champion and the late Phillip L. Champion Sr. of Thomasville.

Gov. Riley coming
      Governor Bob Riley will be vising Jackson on Feb. 11. The visit will consist of two stops. The first stop will be at 9 a.m. at Jackson High School. There, he will be the guest speaker at a program to discuss opportunities that ThyssenKrupp is expected to bring to the area. State Rep. Marc Keahey will host the meeting. The public is invited to attend.

      The Clarke-Mobile Counties Gas Board meeting was held Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 22. Manager Tommy Horsley reported that construction of the new office building in Jackson was taking shape and it is possible they will begin to move in at the end of February.
