COMMUNITY CALENDAR Q'back Club The Thomasville Quarterback Club will have an organizational meeting at 7 p.m., Aug. 5, in the Thomasville High School library. All parents and supporters are encouraged to attend. Meetings will continue each Tuesday night through football season. Alzheimer's support group Alzheimer's / Caregivers Support Group will meet at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 5, at the Grove Hill Memorial Hospital conference room, 295 South Jackson Street in Grove Hill. Car wash The Pine Hill Auxiliary Police Officers will host a car wash from 8 a.m. to 2 pm., Saturday, Aug. 9, at the Pine Hill Fire Station. Donations will be accepted. Kayaking for Kids! Log A Load for Kids will host a kayaking and canoeing event down the Alabama River from Montgomery to Mobile to benefit Alabama's children's hospitals. The event, an 11-day, 333-mile float along the Alabama River, will kickoff Aug. 1 in Montgomery and will end Tuesday, Aug. 12 in Mobile. "Kayaking for Kids" is part of the forestry organization's ongoing efforts to raise funds and awareness for Alabama's two Children's Miracle Network hospitals: USA Children's & Women's Hospital in Mobile and Children's Hospital of Alabama in Birmingham. Those interested in participating in "Kayaking for Kids" are invited to solicit donations and join the kayakers in kayaks, canoes, or pleasure boats for a mile or more along their journey. Kayak or canoe clubs may also plan localized support events along the route to raise money for the hospitals. For the less adventurous, donations may be made payable to "Log-A-Load for Kids" Kayak Event and mailed to: P.O. Box 67, Brundidge, Ala. 36010. For more information on how to become involved, call 251-331-5348. Fulton VFD annual singing The Fulton Volunteer Fire Department will hold its annual singing on Saturday, Oct. 4, in downtown Fulton. Among the many activities planned, a 42-inch flat screen TV (a $900 value) will be given away. The THS homecoming game will kick off the reunion weekend and other fun-filled activities are being planned to make this an enjoyable and memorable reunion. Dates for the reunion are Sept. 26-28. No postal mail will be distributed regarding the reunion.
