The Sweet Water Bulldogs traveled over to Monroe County this past Friday, October 3, and defeated the Frisco City Whippets 51 - 0 in a 1A Region I match-up. As has been the case for the past several weeks, the Bulldogs got off to a fast start taking a 32 - 0 lead in the first quarter and then coasted to another convincing victory. With the win Sweet Water moved their season record to 6 - 0, their region mark to 5 - 0, and extended their consecutive game win streak to 33, surpassing the previous school record of 29 by four games.
Also like it has been in their most recent outings, the Bulldogs had complete control of the game from the opening kick to the final whistle as they accumulated 410 yards of total offense while holding their opponent to -25 yards of offense. By taking command early the Bulldogs also continued to have plenty of opportunity for their younger players to garner significant amounts of playing time.
On offense the Bulldogs were led in rushing by Chris Landrum with 79 yards and one touchdown on four carries; Johnny Lockett with 68 yards and two touchdowns on seven carries and Michael Thompson with 55 yards and one touchdown on 11 carries. In the air Damaraquis Williams was 3 for 3 for 113 yards and one touchdown. On the receiving end of Williams' passes were; Jul Gaines with one catch for 71 yards and one touchdown; Linc Luker with one catch for 26 yards and Jeremy Landrum with one catch for 16 yards
Over on defense the Bulldogs were led by Devin Wolf with five tackles, one sack, and one interception. Following him was Delano Brewer with six tackles and one sack.
In the game, the Bulldogs got on the score board first at the 9:48 mark of the first quarter when Jeremy Landrum barreled in from six yards out. Chris Landrum added the two point conversion and Sweet Water led 8 - 0.
The Bulldogs added to their lead less than two minutes later when Jeremy Landrum got his second touchdown, waltzing in from 10 yards out with 6:55 remaining in the first period. Chris Landrum picked up the two point conversion again and Sweet Water led 16 - 0.
The Bulldogs went to the air for their next score with Damaraquis Williams playing pitch and catch with Jul Gaines on a 71 yard touchdown pass. Michael Thompson plunged in for the two point conversion and the Bulldogs were on top 24 - 0 with 3:44 left in the first quarter.
Exactly one minute later Johnny Lockett got in on the scoring when he danced in from 12 yards out with 2:44 remaining in the first stanza. Chris Landrum logged his third two point conversion of the night and Sweet Water led 32 - 0.
In many respects the second quarter was a lot like the first in that the Bulldogs were in complete control on both sides of the line of scrimmage. The major difference was the Bulldogs only struck pay dirt twice during the period instead of the four scores they registered in the opening frame.
The first of those two scores came with 11:08 remaining when Chris Landrum rambled 70 yards for a touchdown. The extra-point attempt missed the mark but the Bulldog lead was 38 - 0 at that point.
Johnny Lockett was next to cash in when he scampered 18 yards for his second touch- down of the night with 6:13 to play in the second quarter. Delano Brewer added the extra-point and Sweet Water had taken a 45 - 0 lead that they would take with them to the halftime locker room.
All of the third quarter and over half of the fourth quarter were scoreless as the two defenses held the other team's offense out of the endzone. Michael Thompson ended that drought tallying the Bulldogs' final score of the night on a three yard plunge with 5:54 remaining in the final quarter. The two point conversion attempt was no good leaving the final at 51 - 0.
Up next, the Bulldogs continue on the road this week when they make that long trek over to Georgiana on Friday, October 10, to take on the Panthers in another region match-up. Kickoff for the contest is set for 7:00 PM.
